WWE Rumors: Bad news for John Cena's original WrestleMania 35 opponent

What's the story?

As you probably know, John Cena's originally scheduled WrestleMania opponent was none other than Lars Sullivan. However, with all that's happened, not only is his match shelved, but things aren't looking good for Sullivan either.

In case you didn't know...

Lars Sullivan was supposed to make his debut quite a while back, reportedly even before the Royal Rumble match. The idea was supposedly Sullivan attacking Cena, causing him to get "injured" and set up a 'Mania match in the future.

However, Sullivan had reportedly faced anxiety attacks prior to his debut, and his debut date was pushed back. Meanwhile, the 5 other superstars who were set to debut around the same time have already established themselves on the main roster, though none of their brands have been decided as yet.

The heart of the matter

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, there's no good news on Lars Sullivan's end. Apparently, WWE had just waited patiently for him, and there's been no word on when he's actually going to return.

While they could pen \a new angle for him at a later point, it's a real shame that an opportunity this big was missed. Either way, John Cena is rumoured to be taking on Samoa Joe for the United States Championship at WrestleMania 35 instead.

It'll be interesting to see how that feud goes, because they have a history together dating back to days even before Cena had joined WWE.

As for Sullivan, we hope that he overcomes any issues that he has, because mental health must be taken with the utmost seriousness.

What's next?

John Cena has an extremely busy filming schedule, but he may take some time off from that in the coming weeks as the build to WrestleMania 35 is set to conclude.
