What's the story?

After being forced to pull out of this year's 30-man Royal Rumble match due to an injury, there hasn't been any sort of update on a potential return date for 16-time WWE World Champion, John Cena.

However, with WrestleMania 35 being just two months away, fans have started to question Cena's status for WWE's biggest annual pay-per-view and Dave Meltzer of The Observer recently shed some light on the situation.

In case you didn't know...

Having made his return to the WWE as part of both Raw and SmackDown in early 2019, John Cena was all set to enter this year's 30-man Royal Rumble match and eventually challenge for the World Championship at WrestleMania 35.

However, due to a last-minute ankle injury, Cena had to be written off the Rumble match and hasn't been seen on WWE Television ever since. The leader of The Cenation was reportedly also set to have a feud against the debuting Lars Sullivan but those plans were also nixed after Sullivan suffered from an anxiety attack.

The heart of the matter

With John Cena reportedly sidelined with an injury and with Lars Sullivan having undergone an anxiety attack, it is still unclear what the WWE has in store for the 16-time WWE World Champion.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer recently noted that with Sullivan's status still in question, WWE reportedly has no plans for John Cena and hasn't been able to come up with an opponent for Cena at WrestleMania 35.

John Cena has been playing a major role at The Grandest Stage of Them All for the past few years, facing off against the likes of Bray Wyatt, Rusev, and also sharing the ring with The Undertaker in an impromptu match last year.

What's next?

WrestleMania 35 takes place on the 8th of April, 2019 at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey and so far, only a few matches have been confirmed for the show.

Will Big Match John eventually find him booked for 'Mania 35? Only time will tell!
