What's the story?

When Sami Zayn returned from injury the night after WrestleMania, he did so as a face. But after the match, he immediately turned heel by insulting the fans.

While he has been absent from programming since the SmackDown following WWE's Stomping Grounds PPV, Fightful.com is reporting that he is not injured but hasn't appeared because there are no plans for him at the moment.

In case you didn't know...

After returning on the night after WrestleMania, Sami Zayn was successful as a heel on the mic where he blamed the fans for everything that was wrong in their lives. He was approaching top-level heel status on the mic but was losing several matches weekly. Zayn faced Rollins in a main event of RAW and was even a part of the ongoing Shane McMahon megalomania.

The heart of the matter

With so many talented wrestlers on the roster, not everyone is going to get onto TV. And with the Wildcard Rule messing things up for some stars regarding their own TV time, getting onto RAW or SmackDown has proven to be harder than ever.

That was made widely known during Kevin Owens' now infamous pipe bomb on Shane McMahon. During it, KO blamed the Chairman's son for taking away spotlight and TV time from actual wrestlers.

Among the Superstars named by Owens were Ali, Liv Morgan, AOP, Kairi Sane, Asuka, Apollo Crews and Buddy Murphy. He didn't mention his friend Sami Zayn, but Zayn has also been off of programming for a few weeks.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, Zayn is not away with an injury, but instead because 'creative has nothing for him' at the moment. He's apparently being kept off of TV until the writers can find something for him.

With SummerSlam up next on the schedule, he might be popping up again once Extreme Rules is over. Several stars will likely return to action and TV in order to begin their programs for the Biggest Party of the Summer.

What's next?

If Paul Heyman is a fan of promos, then he has to be a fan of Sami Zayn. Zayn cut some great promos as a heel after he returned, so it would be wise to use him going forward. Everyone can't be used all the time, but Zayn is one of the performers who should be on TV constantly.
