None of the planned matches were able to go ahead this week on Friday Night SmackDown, since most of the SmackDown roster remained in Saudi Arabia due to mechanical issues with their plane as they tried to leave the Middle Eastern country earlier today.
This meant that WWE had to put together a full episode of SmackDown in a matter of hours and call in several NXT stars since the only remaining stars for SmackDown were the likes of The Miz, Daniel Bryan, and Sami Zayn who did not travel to Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel.
Even though the show was thrown together in a matter of hours, it was easily the best episode of SmackDown for a very long time. But even though the show delivered on all levels, there were still a number of shocking botches and mistakes.
#4 Shayna Baszler really wants her coat
Bayley successfully defended her SmackDown Women's Championship against Nikki Cross this week on SmackDown, but following the match, Baszler made her way to the ring and attacked both Sasha Banks and Nikki Cross, before setting her sights on Bayley.
The NXT Women's Champion then attacked the SmackDown Women's Champion and seemingly set up a future showdown between the two women at Survivor Series which takes place in just three weeks time, before she then headed over to pick up her coat.
Baszler then realized that she still had to deliver a knee to Bayley before she could leave, so she made the decision to drop her coat and delivered the move only to head back over, pick her coat up and finally put it on as she left the ring.
#3 Renee Young is kicked in the face
The commentary team of Michael Cole and Corey Graves were stuck in Saudi Arabia with a number of other main roster members, which meant that Renee Young, Tom Phillips, and Aiden English were drafted in to replace them.
English later left and was replaced by Pat McPhee to call the action. Young did a good job on her return to the desk but ran into some problems when she was kicked in the face by Sonya Deville.
Tegan Nox tried to throw the former MMA star over the announce table but this didn't go to plan, which is why Young ended up getting kicked, something that definitely annoyed her since she stated that she had suffered a bloody nose.
Mandy Rose was then forced to finish the match without Deville and Rhea Ripley looked to make her submit, but she was unable to keep her in the hold and she kept slipping down her legs before she eventually tapped.
It was a botchy way to introduce the women to the main roster viewers, but it was able to get across the fact that the SmackDown Women's Division are in for quite a fight.
#2 Aiden English has no idea who Shayna Baszler is
Aiden English usually commentates on 205 Live, but he was moved over to SmackDown for one night because Michael Cole and Corey Graves were stuck in the Middle East. This meant that the commentary booth included Renee Young, Tom Phillips and Aiden English for the Women's Championship match between Bayley and Nikki Cross.
Bayley was able to retain her Championship with the support of Sasha Banks at ringside before Shayna Baszler became the first NXT star to make her way to the ring and attack all three stars. Baszler has been known as the Submission Magician and The Queen of Spades throughout her time on NXT but it appears that this isn't something English has been keeping an eye on.
When the NXT Women's Champion made her way to the ring and attacked the three main roster stars, English stated that she was The Queen of Harts which is actually Natalya's name, before he was corrected by his co-commentator Tom Phillips who made it clear that the former MMA star is actually The Queen of Spades.
#1 Tommaso Ciampa's powerbomb didn't work out well for him
Tommaso Ciampa was another shocking inclusion in tonight's episode of SmackDown since he wasn't expected to be part of the show. Bray Wyatt was scheduled to be part of Miz TV after his historic Universal Championship win last night at Crown Jewel, but the travel issues seemingly also affected The Fiend.
This meant that The Miz was forced to have Ciampa as a guest on Miz TV and after a fantastic back and forth, where Miz tripped over his lines a number of times, the two men collided in the ring. Their match was one that many fans have wanted to watch for a while, but Miz looked out of place throughout and as if he wasn't completely secure facing the former NXT Champion.
This was later shown when Ciampa went for a powerbomb and it all went wrong before Miz was able to counter and deliver a DDT. Perhaps this feud will be revisited in the build-up to Survivor Series and the two men will then be able to show that tonight was merely a blip.
