John Morrison will take on The New Day's Big E

It didn't seem very long ago that John Morrison was the biggest star in Impact Wrestling, first as a babyface and then as a heel. Little did anyone know then that the run would be a stepping stone for him, to return to WWE again.

It does seem like John Morrison has aligned himself with The Miz and this is a callback to their tag team, which was a very popular act back in the day. And now, his big return match has been announced - Morrison takes on Big E!

So, why was Big E chosen as Morrison's opponent for his comeback match? I will try and answer the question with 5 points in the following pages.

If you have a thought or an idea, I encourage you to leave a comment below.

#5 The events on SmackDown Live

I know that a lot of people do not watch any wrestling beyond WWE and may not have followed John Morrison's career over the years, outside the promotion. So, a lot of fans wondered if the man still had it in him to deliver the same amazing moves that we've come to know and love from him.

And he did just that in the match between Kofi Kingston and The Miz, onto Big E, which allowed The Miz to score a big victory.

As a result of this move, this match has been made, and it also stems from the words that were exchanged between the two men on commentary as well during the course of the match.

John Morrison even got a little personal with Big E during the course of their conversation and this was the perfect setup for the match next week. And in the next page, I shall mention why this contest is so very perfect.

#4 A showcase of strength vs. agility

The great thing about WWE is that because of the scripted nature of the product, it can make for some interesting dream matches that one wouldn't otherwise see in the world of real, 'unscripted' combat sports. Take the feud for the Intercontinental Championship for instance, where a monstrous brute in Braun Strowman will take on a lethal striker in Shinsuke Nakamura.

John Morrison may, even at his age, be the most agile man in WWE not named Ricochet. Because of his background in parkour, he can do things that the human mind cannot even conceive and the iconic Kofi Kingston Royal Rumble spot was actually inspired by something Morrison did that inspired Kingston to replicate it.

On the other hand, Big E is someone who hails from a different world... that of strongmen. So a match of these two styles will fit someone who is incredible agile against someone who is an absolute powerhouse which will make for a clash that a lot of members in the WWE Universe would certainly pay to see.

#3 Big E can take a pinfall without it really harming him

We do know that The New Day are the reigning and defending SmackDown Tag Team Champions, but at the same time, a singles defeat may not necessarily harm them all that much. We also certainly know for a fact that John Morrison is going to pick up a big win in his comeback match and even if Big E goes down, it won't really cause him much of a setback.

I mean, say John Morrison had returned to take Ali on and made short work of him, one would have felt that Ali had fallen a rung or two in the WWE hierarchy, and with good reason too. The same could have been said for someone like Shorty G who cannot afford to take a loss right now but probably will to Sheamus anyway.

Big E is incredibly popular with the WWE Universe and even the casual crowd, and will definitely not be the worse for wear when John Morrison pins him to pick up a victory next week on SmackDown.

#2 Using it as a launchpad for a big tag team title feud

The New Day may be the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions but the fact remains that they are in a division where they literally have no opponents. They've faced The Revival way too many times so even if the matches are great, a lot of people have lost any interest in watching them. Heavy Machinery could be viable competitors and so could The Usos, but the truth is that they are babyface teams.

One could always make the argument that Ziggler and Corbin would make great opponents for The New Day, but, at the same time, they are currently embroiled in a feud with Roman Reigns. Some may say that a feud with Roman Reigns is even more high-profile than a tag team title feud, even if no title is involved in the same.

But Miz and Morrison vs. The New Day will be a thrilling program indeed and could also help John Morrison in gaining a foothold as a tag team competitor before he branches off into singles competition.

#1 May allow The Miz to conclusively go heel

So, when John Morrison clashes with Big E next week, chances are that Kofi Kingston will also be at ringside urging Big E on and so will The Miz (on Morrison's side), which can make for some interesting action outside the ring.

So, WWE could make their Tag Team Champion suffer a pinfall defeat owing to a distraction caused by The Miz, who we know is a man that plays dirty.

This week on WWE SmackDown, The Miz claimed that he had not changed at all which is indicative of the fact that he believes that he is not a heel. But when he's in the ringside area and cheats to help Morrison pick up a victory in the big match, I'm sure that his heel turn will be set in stone.

In fact, The Miz can also show up on commentary and cut promos as a heel with Kofi Kingston playing the beloved babyface since we know that he is loved, respected, and revered by the entire WWE Universe, .
