A major twist could happen in the Roman Reigns storyline
A major twist could happen in the Roman Reigns storyline

RAW this week wasn't the strongest show, and honestly, even that is putting it mildly. There is a lot of pressure on WWE SmackDown to build some momentum as we head into Clash of Champions 2020 this weekend, but provided the show on Friday night is strong enough, WWE SmackDown can turn the tide ahead of the upcoming pay-per-view.

In this article, let's look at five surprises that could potentially take the world by storm on WWE SmackDown this week. There is no guarantee at all that they will happen, but if they do, WWE SmackDown could certainly be a memorable show.

Be sure to leave a comment in the section below, expressing your thoughts on the choices mentioned and also, get into the fantasy booking chair to list out potential surprises of your own!

#5 Billie Kay arrives on WWE SmackDown and straight up, goes after Naomi

One of the weirdest things that happened on RAW this week, on a night when many weird things happened, is that Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, who recently went their separate ways chose to still remain friends. The best course of action for both women, in this case, is to just keep them apart for the time being. Good news for Billie Kay then, that there is a vacancy in the WWE SmackDown roster, especially if you consider that Mandy Rose has been traded to the WWE RAW brand.

There has been a major outcry on social media that WWE SmackDown star Naomi never gets her due and this claim is definitely warranted, but if Billie Kay goes straight for her, the two women could definitely build each other up. Or maybe she could go after the mystery woman, who is very clearly Carmella.

#4 This time when Roman Reigns and Jey Uso hug on WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns assaults his cousin

Even though Roman Reigns is very clearly a heel on WWE SmackDown, now that he is aligned with Paul Heyman, he hasn't yet turned on Jey Uso. As good as a match between two men on the same page as gifted as Roman Reigns and Jey Uso can be from a competitive standpoint, if Roman Reigns was to turn on his cousin on WWE SmackDown, it would just make the match at Clash of Champions feel even more special.

It is still very difficult to buy into the idea of Roman Reigns as a heel, even though he has shown up late for his clashes on pay-per-view and WWE SmackDown, wrecked everyone and left. But for him to turn on his cousin, right before a major pay-per-view match would be compelling television and would instantly make WWE SmackDown the superior show this week, considering the massive outcry on social media about how badly WWE has handled the whole Retribution angle.

#3 Nikki Cross saves Sasha Banks from a potential beatdown on WWE SmackDown this week

Bayley is absolutely unhinged right now, and she will go the extra mile when it is necessary to defend the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship and also to inflict punishment upon her former best friend- Sasha Banks. And so whether Sasha Banks is in the back, being attended to after the events of last week, or even in a medical facility, with the footage being broadcast on WWE SmackDown, expect Bayley to be on the prowl once again.

Only this time, to remind the audience that there is a big Nikki Cross vs. Bayley match this weekend, the former could come to the rescue, with her taking the fight to the current WWE SmackDown Women's Champion with a major flurry of fists. It would lend a certain degree of heat to the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship match this weekend, this is almost guaranteed to be a good match but doesn't seem like a very important one. The outcome is a foregone conclusion.

#2 WWE SmackDown star Alexa Bliss shows up inside the Firefly Funhouse

There has been a major transformation in Alexa Bliss over the past year or so on RAW and WWE SmackDown, going from a Goddess, to a caffeine addict, to a version where she is chaneling Bray Wyatt's alter ego, The Fiend.

It is clear, at this moment, that even she doesn't know the extent of the changes that are happening to her, in her current storyline, but she has delivered two Sister Abigails over the last two weeks on WWE SmackDown. Could she actually stun the world this week, by showing up on Bray Wyatt's Firefly Funhouse vignettes?

Maybe in time, Alexa Bliss could become the valet for The Fiend on WWE SmackDown, but at the moment, she could take the next step towards a darker persona by becoming a part of the Firefly Funhouse vignettes on WWE SmackDown.

It does help that Alexa Bliss is a naturally gifted actress as well, perhaps the best in WWE right now, to portray a role of this magnitude.

#1 Big E is added to the Intercontinental Championship ladder match on WWE SmackDown

It just seems like a shame to leave Big E out of the proceedings at Clash of Champions 2020, especially when he has so much momentum behind him. And so, to make the ladder match at Clash of Champions 2020 even sweeter, could Big E be added to the massive contest in this week's episode of WWE SmackDown?

If Big E does become the Intercontinental Champion at Clash of Champions 2020, it would be a major step in the right direction for the man, and every WWE SmackDown fan would be thrilled. And even if Sheamus was to cost Big E his big opportunity, it would just skyrocket their feud into the next gear.

It would just even the odds for the contest, with 2 WWE SmackDown babyfaces and 2 WWE SmackDown heels in the match. But until WWE SmackDown comes around, why don't you check out Sportskeeda's brand new interview with Seth Rollins expressing his admiration for his on-screen nemesis Rey Mysterio?
