SummerSlam 2020
SummerSlam 2020

SummerSlam 2020 is in history books as WWE presented the thirty-third edition of their "Biggest Party of the Summer". SummerSlam 2020 received mixed reactions from the fans and critiques, who liked certain parts of the PPV and didn't like some others.

SummerSlam 2020 took place at the WWE ThunderDome at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. We saw two top Championships change hands and the night ended with the surprise return of the Big Dog, Roman Reigns. While we saw a lot of action on our screen, there was probably a lot more happening behind the scenes.

Let's take a look at ten amazing backstage photos from SummerSlam 2020, courtesy WWE.com. Be sure to comment down and let us know your thoughts on the PPV.

#10 The Mysterio Family arrives at SummerSlam

SummerSlam 2020 saw the debut of legendary WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio's son Dominik, who took on Seth Rollins. The Mysterio Family has been in a heated rivalry with the Monday Night Messiah lately which ultimately led to Dominik stepping inside the WWE ring at SummerSlam.

While he was unable to defeat Seth Rollins, Dominik's mother and father would be very proud of him. Both of them were at the arena and can be seen arriving in the photo above.

#9 The Legit Boss

Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks had a rough night at SummerSlam 2020 as she entered with two titles but left with just one. One-half of the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, Sasha Banks lost her RAW Women's Championship to Asuka at the PPV.

She did help her "best friend" Bayley retain her SmackDown Women's title but Bayley was unable to return the favor to her. There were clear signs of anger and frustration on Sasha's face, but the Golden Role Models lived on to see another day.

The above photo shows Sasha Banks backstage at SummerSlam 2020. What is she wondering while looking at herself in the mirror?

#8 The WWE Champion

Drew McIntytre

The WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre faced the biggest threat to his title reign at SummerSlam as Randy Orton challenged him. While the Legend Killer had plans to win his 14th World title reign, McIntyre managed to retain his title after a backslide pin.

Drew McIntyre can be seen getting ready for his match at SummerSlam in the picture above. He has had an amazing reign as the WWE Champion so far and it is to be seen who can finally take the title off him.

#7 Sanitization at SummerSlam

WWE has been heavily affected by the current pandemic of COVID-19 as they have had to hold their shows without fans. While the company tried to bring some sense of normalcy to SummerSlam with the introduction of WWE ThunderDome, they still follow strict rules to ensure everyone's safety and well-being.

In the above picture, RAW Tag Team Champions The Street Profits can be seen sanitizing their hands backstage. It is good to see WWE Superstars follow these practices for their safety. Earlier at Money in the Bank, we saw Vince McMahon having a bottle of sanitizer on his desk at the WWE Headquarter.

#6 Mr. Money in the Bank and his peach

Mandy Rose and Otis

One of the biggest storylines of 2020 has been the love angle between Otis and Mandy Rose. WWE has gone all the way with it as both of them have become an on-screen couple on SmackDown. At SummerSlam, Mandy Rose took on Sonya Deville in a "Loser Leaves WWE" match.

In what was a sloppy match, Mandy managed to defeat her former tag team partner to save her career. After their match, Mr. Money in the Bank 2020, Otis came out to celebrate with her. Both of them can be seen backstage in the picture above.

#5 Was SummerSlam the last time we'll see Sonya Deville in WWE?

Things haven't been going well for WWE Superstar Sonya Deville recently in her real-life. She was scheduled to face Mandy Rose at SummerSlam in a "hair vs hair" match, with many fans expecting her to lose and debut a new look without hair.

But due to the real-life incidents, plans changed and Sonya probably wanted some time off. This led to WWE changing the stipulation to a "Loser Leaves WWE" match, which Sonya lost. In the above picture, she can be seen backstage saying something to the camera - probably for a future WWE Network documentary. Will we ever see Sonya Deville in WWE after SummerSlam? Only time will tell.

#4 Bayley Dos Straps

SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley has been one of the most impressive performers for WWE in this pandemic-hit era. Once a bubbly babyface, Bayley is now a top heel, proving how versatile she can be as a performer. At SummerSlam 2020, she defended her SmackDown Women's title against Asuka.

As mentioned earlier, Sasha Banks helped her win the match and expected her to do the same, but Bayley was unable to return the favor. There has been a lot of misunderstanding between the two and it looked like WWE might pull the trigger at SummerSlam, but they didn't. The eventual Sasha Banks vs Bayley feud is sure to be amazing.

In the above picture, 317+ refers to the length of her current SmackDown Women's Championship reign.

#3 Asuka backstage at SummerSlam

Asuka earned herself a title shot at both Sasha Banks' RAW Women's Championship and Bayley's SmackDown Women's Championship at SummerSlam 2020. She walked out of SummerSlam as the new RAW Women's Champion by defeating Sasha Banks.

In the above picture, Asuka can be seen backstage in front of cameras. It will be interesting to see what's next for her and who steps up to challenge her post-SummerSlam.

#2 WWE ThunderDome at SummerSlam

Angel Garza

SummerSlam 2020 was the second show where WWE allowed the fans to attend virtually, courtesy WWE ThunderDome - a "state-of-the-art" viewing experience for fans. The new setup has indeed brought some fresh air but there is still room of improvement to perfect it.

In the above picture, Angel Garza can be seen taking a look at hundreds of screens setup in the arena for the fans. He teamed up with Andrade to challenge The Street Profits for their RAW Tag Team Championships but were unable to win them.

#1 What's The Hurt Business planning?

Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley

WWE has recently focused on bringing back stables to their programming. One of the stables created has been The Hurt Business - consisting of MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin. While Lashley and MVP have been involved with the United States Champion Apollo Crews, Shelton Benjamin is focused on the 24/7 Championship.

In the above picture, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin can be seen having a conversation backstage at SummerSlam. Both of them were not on the card of the show, but MVP challenged Apollo for the US title in an unsuccessful attempt.
