WWE SummerSlam 2020: 5 matches that could be added to the PPV

How will SummerSlam shape up for Bayley and Sasha?
How will SummerSlam shape up for Bayley and Sasha?

WWE is hell-bent on putting on a proper show for SummerSlam, with rumblings that the show could possibly take place outdoors at a beach or on a boat. This would definitely make SummerSlam unique, especially after months of events taking place at WWE's Performance Center in Orlando.

And ever since the Horror Show at Extreme Rules, we have seen quite a few surprises unfold that could see SummerSlam shape up differently than expected. Some matches had been teased or were pretty much locks for the show following the last WWE pay-per-view, but a whole bunch of the card still has a tinge of intrigue.

The women's division, in particular, has been subject to controversy and unpredictability. Several storylines featuring women have been set into motion on RAW and SmackDown, with some going on for months and some just getting started.

But there are more matches that have been teased for the 'Biggest Party of the Summer'. Wherever SummerSlam emanates from, it is sure to be one heck of an event. Here are five matches that could be added to the card for WWE SummerSlam 2020.

#5 Shayna Baszler vs. Nia Jax (No Disqualification Match)

Having returned to TV a couple of weeks ago, it seems like Shayna Baszler is being prepared to re-enter the women's main event scene in the near future. But with the RAW Women's Title still up for grabs in an intense feud, the 'Queen of Spades' now has a non-title opponent she can sink her teeth into.

On this week's episode of RAW, Baszler had a pretty aggressive confrontation with Nia Jax. The two had a match that got out of hand relatively quickly, ending in a double count-out. This perfectly sets the stage for a destructive blowoff match between the two menacing figures.

Jax has had some entertaining matches with Ronda Rousey in the past, while Baszler has not really faced an opponent much larger than her in WWE. The dynamic between them could be interesting, considering it is between two heels.

A solid No Disqualification brawl could be the way to go for Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax at SummerSlam. How about a nice little Beach Fight? Either way, the former NXT Women's Champion is set to pick up a huge win as she climbs back up the ranks on RAW.

#4 AJ Styles vs. Big E (Intercontinental Championship)

When Kofi Kingston announced his rib injury and gave Big E his blessing for a singles run, the WWE Universe rejoiced. The muscle of the New Day has been one of the most consistently entertaining Superstars in WWE history, all while maintaining a killer look ready for a fight at any time. But now, presumably SummerSlam onwards, he will get the chance to shine on his own.

While it would be nice to see Big E enter the world title picture immediately, the feud between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt is not over yet. A more realistic match for SummerSlam would be against AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship. We could see a terrific clash of styles in this match.

Styles has already defended the IC Title against a variety of opponents, with another one against Gran Metalik coming up on this week's episode of SmackDown. He is likely to keep the belt and head into SummerSlam with the gold, where the big man could get his opportunity.

Big E has improved so much as a performer since he last won the Intercontinental Championship, so it would be nice to see him win that same title again. What a way that would be to announce yourself as a singles star once again, winning the IC Title in a belter of a match against AJ Styles at SummerSlam.

#3 Seth Rollins and Murphy vs. Rey and Dominik Mysterio (Tag Team Match)

This seems like the destination we are headed to with this feud for SummerSlam. Dominik Mysterio has looked pretty great every time he has entered a WWE ring so far, not necessarily including his cameos back in 2005. He attacked Seth Rollins and Murphy on RAW, in an act of vengeance for his father's loss of an eye.

Rollins engaged in a bitter and surreal feud with Rey Mysterio, with things coming to a head in an 'Eye for an Eye' Match at Extreme Rules. The masked veteran has now lost an eye, but could be back in time for SummerSlam, to team up with his son against the Monday Night Messiah and his disciple.

The match will surely be a heated and intense one, possibly with a lot of buzz surrounding Dominik's in-ring debut. Aleister Black might even play a part at SummerSlam, following the attack to his eye courtesy of Rollins.

But the most exciting prospect for the 'Biggest Party of the Summer' has to be the in-ring debut of Dominik. He seems ready and has definitely shown that he belongs inside the ropes. However, Seth Rollins and Murphy are still likely to emerge from SummerSlam victorious.

#2 Bayley vs. Naomi (SmackDown Women's Championship)

This SummerSlam match is contingent on the result of Bayley's SmackDown Women's Title defense against Nikki Cross on this week's episode of SmackDown. The Latina star is likely to retain her title, as she and Sasha Banks have been at the forefront of RAW and SmackDown in the past couple of months.

Bayley's SummerSlam opponent looks to be Naomi, who has been getting a groundswell of support on social media following a pretty terrible Karaoke segment on SmackDown. She will face Lacey Evans in a match this week, with the likely option being a victory en route to a SmackDown Women's Title match against Bayley.

It could be one of the most compelling matches at SummerSlam, with the dynamic locked in. Bayley has grown into one of the greatest female heels in WWE history, while Naomi is getting more and more over with the fans. This is the biggest match Bayley can have for the title, aside from the eventual blowoff against Sasha Banks.

#NaomiDeservesBetter could will WWE on to book the 2-time Champion for a title match at SummerSlam. It would be smart to use this movement to create a compelling story heading into the 'Big Four' pay-per-view. Bayley could become an even bigger heel if she defeats Naomi at SummerSlam.

#1 Sasha Banks vs. Asuka (RAW Women's Championship)

The biggest development on WWE's road to SummerSlam, so far, has to be Sasha Banks winning the RAW Women's Championship from Asuka by count-out, while Bayley attacked Kairi Sane backstage. The long and slow-burning story between Bayley and Banks has taken yet another interesting turn.

And with the second controversial finish to a great match between Asuka and Banks, SummerSlam could provide the perfect conclusion to this feud. The 'Empress of Tomorrow' undoubtedly has a fire lit up inside of her due to Kairi being written out of WWE for good, so seeing her go on a warpath against the RAW and SmackDown Women's Champions could bring some fun and intense action.

Asuka might become the most dangerous she has ever been in WWE as a result of losing both her title and her friend, with the stage set for a SummerSlam classic. The action in this feud has been great so far, with Asuka vs. Sasha Banks being the best match at Extreme Rules despite the finish.

But once this great action is coupled with a proper finish, WWE might have a Match of the Year contender on their hands. As for the outcome, it could go either way. If we have learned anything from Sasha Banks and Bayley in 2020, it is that we should expect the unexpected.

Asuka could gain significant revenge on the Women's Tag Team Champions, possibly with the help of Io Shirai. But seeing the Legit Boss remain as RAW Women's Champion post-SummerSlam might not seem out of the question. In fact, it would be a pleasant surprise considering she has never successfully defended the title despite winning it five times.

Whatever the outcome is, expect Asuka and Sasha Banks to steal the show at SummerSlam. We could be in for one of the most fun shows of the year.
