WWE Super ShowDown: 5 Things that must happen before the show in Melbourne

A Big Pay Per View? or another Glorified House Show?
A Big Pay Per View? or another Glorified House Show?

Just three weeks after presenting inarguably their best pay per view of the year so far in the sensational Hell in a Cell, WWE will once again present a humongous show when they visit the MCG in Melbourne, Australia for WWE Super Show-Down.

Follow Sportskeeda for the latest WWE news, rumors and all other wrestling news.

In what will their second pay per view outside America in 2018 after the Greatest Royal Rumble, WWE has brought out all the potential show-stealing matches to enthrall the audience Down Under.

While most of the build of the show has been around the so-called last encounter between The Undertaker v Triple H, none of the other matches have received the same amount of buzz.

Including the WWE championship and the Smackdown's Women Championship match, there are a total of nine other matches that are scheduled to happen in Melbourne, and WWE has a huge task at hand to promote these match as much as possible in the next two weeks.

While we can expect a lot to happen before the show, here are the 5 things that must happen before the massive show at the MCG to take the buzz around the show to a whole new level.

#5 Return of John Cena

Cena will wrestle his first Televised match in 6 months.
Cena will wrestle his first Televised match in 6 months.

John Cena has been away from the WWE programming for so long that it is hard to remember that he is even a part of the roster anymore.

In fact, we haven't seen Big Match John on television since the Greatest Royal Rumble in April.

Barring any injury, Cena has never taken such a long sabbatical from the industry in the past, and when he appears at Super Showdown, it will be his first match in almost 6 months.

However, WWE has to make sure that Cena does return on an episode of Raw before the aforementioned show, where he will team with Bobby Lashley to take on KO and Elias.

Despite his part-time status, Cena is still a huge name who can promote an event with just a solitary appearance before the show.

WWE can't just rely on Triple H and The Undertaker for the promotion of the show, hence, Cena has to make an appearance before October 6.

It doesn't matter if it is an in-ring promo to hype his match or a brawl with Owens and Elias, or maybe even a run-in to save Lashley from an attack by their opposition, Cena has to make his presence felt in the next two episodes of Raw.

#4 Friction between Nikki Bella and Ronda Rousey

Like it or not, these two are bound to clash at Evolution.
Like it or not, these two are bound to clash at Evolution.

I hate to say this, but it is all but confirmed now that Nikki Bella will challenge Ronda Rousey in the main event of Evolution next months.

Just like that, WWE destroyed all their efforts of promoting an all women pay per view by putting, seemingly out of nowhere, a semi-retired 'Diva' in the main event of that show.

However, if WWE wants to go ahead with this program, they have to build some real animosity between the two performers.

Everyone knows that Nikki is going to turn heel on Rousey after their tag match at Super Showdown, but it would be better for the WWE to build some friction and misunderstandings between the two even before that.

There are two episodes of Raw scheduled before the event, and at least one of the two will definitely be involved in a match.

Having Nikki interfere in Rousey's match, or having Nikki lose a match due to distraction from the Rowdy one could be the best way to initiate the rivalry. This would also help increase the buzz for the six-women tag match in two weeks.

#3 An appearance by Kane

Time to lay the stones of a future Tag match.
Time to lay the stones of a future Tag match.

Even though it earlier seemed that WWE might have made a big mistake by bringing The Undertaker and Triple H together for a marquee match at Super Showdown, they have done a tremendous job so far with this program.

With no cheap attacks and a lot of promos, WWE has successfully kept the fans engrossed in the build-up of this match.

However, the biggest news coming out so far has been the announcement of both Shawn Michaels and Kane being on the corners of Triple H and Taker respectively at Melbourne.

Rumours are running wild that HBK might step back again in the ring before the end of the year for a tag team match between the two teams, and they were strengthened when he had that chilling promo duel with Taker a few weeks ago on Raw.

This leaves Kane as the only one from the quartet who hasn't appeared yet on TV, but this makes sense especially when you consider that he is now a County Mayor.

However, just like HBK appeared to stand by his best friend, Kane must appear to promote his brother ahead of the match.

Not only will this catapult the buzz for the show to a whole new level, but it will also lay the stones for a rumored dream tag match between these two legendary teams.

#2 Winner Taker All stipulation added to the Six-Man Tag Match

This match needs a huge stipulation.
This match needs a huge stipulation.

Why are all the champions on Raw fighting in useless tag team matches in Melbourne instead of defending their titles in, well, meaningful matches with future implications?

I know we have seen Reigns fight Strowman for the Universal Title and saw his Shield Brothers tear the house down with Michaels and Diesel II at Hell in a Cell, but that doesn't mean they can't have a rematch again in Melbourne.

It makes sense to have Ronda feature in a tag match to sow the seeds for her future title defense, but this six-man tag match makes no sense especially when the same fixture is being advertised for TLC in December as well.

Not only has this taken the interest of the fans away from this angle that started fiercely, but it will also hamper the prestige and value of the titles that the superstars are holding.

While it is still possible that WWE might add a special stipulation, like an elimination match, to this, it would still feel incomplete until and unless the titles are added to the mixture.

We haven't seen Winners take all stipulation match in the WWE for quite some time now, and they are actually quite fun to watch due to the unpredictability.

A lot of focus has been on the Shield being just one title short of holding all titles on Raw, and adding the winner takes all to this tag match could be the perfect way of accomplishing that feat.

#1 Samoa Joe dismantles AJ Styles

It's high time Joe shows his Rogue side as well.
It's high time Joe shows his Rogue side as well.

Samoa Joe was the best thing that could have happened to AJ Styles' WWE Title reign. The rivalry between the Phenomenal One and The Samoan Submission Machine has been executed to such a level of brilliance that it won't be wrong to call it the best feud in the WWE at this point.

From their sensational promo work to their impeccable segments on Smackdown to their twin in-ring classics at Summerslam and Hell in a Cell, everything has been to the point so far.

However, the only thing missing from this feud so far has been the fire and ferocity that Samoa Joe is famous for.

Yes, he has cut vile, heeling promos and has attacked him on multiple occasions, but he has been portrayed as a typical WWE heel and not as the monstrous heel he has been throughout his career.

Ever since this feud started back in July, it has been Styles who has always had the upper hand on Joe, and even though it has resulted in a resurgence in Styles' popularity, it has hindered Joe's stand as a destructive heel.

The two are scheduled for a No DQ match in two weeks, and the best way to promote this bout is by having Joe show his rogue side and dismantle Styles like a man and not like a coward heel.

A good ol' style brawl, minus the typical WWE thing of sending the entire locker room out, is the only thing that is missing from this feud that has taken every WWE fan back to the days of Attitude Era.
