Contract terminations at WWE are common, with wrestlers being told they are 'fired' by Vince McMahon either as a storyline or actually being shown the back door in reality.
Some of the wounded sit at home and wait for the phone call asking them to come back, others move onto other wrestling establishments, while many are determined to prove that they deserve a spot on the roster.

#7 Matt Hardy
It would be an understatement to say that 2005 was not a good year for the wrestler, with the real-life affair of his real-life girlfriend Lita with Edge spilling into his work life, and him being fired to unprofessional conduct after discovering the same. This led to the fan's uproar with a petition to re-sign Hardy amassing over 15 thousand signatures and chants of 'We want Matt', and 'You Screwed Matt' being heard when the hated on-screen couple Edge and Lita entered the ring.
Eventually Matt Hardy did return and after battling an infection, was stronger than ever and went on to become very successful. His tag team The Hardy Boyz with his real-life brother Jeff, is also one of the most popular and triumphant teams in the history of WWE.
#6 Eddie Guerrero
In November 2001, Guerrero was arrested for drunk driving and was fired from WWE (then WWF) 3 days later. It seemed like he had hit rock bottom, but less than a year later the company gave him a second chance, and he immediately repaid that faith by winning championships.
His most prominent win was against Brock Lesnar at No Way Out 2004, with Guerrero winning his sole world championship. It is unfortunate that he died at such a young age as he left a legacy as one of the most beloved wrestlers, and served as an inspiration to many.
#5 Jinder Mahal
You have to give credit where it is due as Jinder Mahal wouldn't be known for a lot in his career apart from 3MB if he hadn't changed his look.
He was let go by the company in 2014 and no one would have thought he'd return a few years absolutely ripped and become the 50th WWE Champion and the first wrestler of Indian descent to win the title. (Second overall to hold a title in the WWE)
The Modern Day Maharaja was also in the right place at the right time with WWE wanting to boost their value in India, and Mahal being the perfect representative.
#4 'Road Dogg' Jesse James
Like his former teammate Jeff Jarrett, 'The Roadie' was released from the company.
His former persona as Jarrett's assistant during the country song gimmick had to die, and he returned as the 'Road Dogg' Jesse James, forming The New Age Outlaws with the 'Badd Ass' Billy Gunn.
He not only presented himself as the true singer of 'With My Baby Tonight' ( a twist?) and 'The Real Double J' but together with his new partner and D-Generation X introduced the wrestling world to the Attitude Era. They went on to become one of the most successful tag teams in the history of the WWE, winning 6 championships together ( one of them came in 2014). Additionally Road Dogg found success in singles competition, becoming a one-time Intercontinental Champion, and Hardcore Champion.
James is considered to be one of the greatest stars and architects of the Attitude Era. (1997-2002)
#3 Drew McIntyre
Introduced as 'A future world champion' by Vince McMahon, Drew McIntyre did well early in his career, but a few years later began a losing streak, with then Smackdown Manager Teddy Long letting him know that he needs to win matches to justify his contract.
The stable 3MB was formed, but just like his fellow teammate Jinder Mahal, 'The Chosen One' needed some time away from WWE to figure himself out.
He returned better than ever and needed to earn his spot on the main roster.On NXT he became the first superstar who has been on the main roster to win the NXT Championship, and the first Scotsman to do so.
His dominance continued on the main roster as the 'Scottish Psychopath' is now one of the top guys in the company.
#2 Jeff Hardy
In 2003 his drug use, tardiness, and refusal to go to rehab left the WWE no choice but to release the wrestler.
Fast forward 3 years and Jeff Hardy returns all recuperated from his 'burnout.' He picks up right where he left off and the eccentric superstar had many championship reigns, becoming one of the hottest commodities for the company. Hardy had a dream singles run and was one of the most popular wrestlers for a long time.
Even his second return to WWE as The Hardy Boyz with his brother Matt was an excellent comeback, with the duo winning gold immediately!
#1 Daniel Bryan
He couldn't have had a more organic rise to the top of WWE.
Dubbed as a 'B+ Player' Daniel Bryan channelled all the insults, beat downs and pain he received into defeating Triple H, before going on to beat Batista and Randy Orton to capture both the WWE and the World Heavy Weight Championships at the grandest stage of them all Wrestlemania ( 30.)
While that may have been Bryan's most memorable night, even before that he had many title reigns.
He accomplished all this after being fired from the company in 2010 as he had been too violent, pretending to strangle ring announcer Justin Roberts with is own neck tie.
His third return to WWE is well known and inspirational to the world.
You may not like the Grand Slam Champion winner, but he has most certainly won the respect of everyone for getting past all the trials and tribulations he faced, even if the odds were stacked against him.
These Superstars may have gotten fired from WWE, but the 'fire' in their bellies never went out as they all made brilliant, memorable comebacks, and followed John Cena's motto of Never Give up!
