A big sign of just who are the bigger stars of the company can often be seen in the number of times a particular superstar has main-evented a WrestleMania event.

While someone like Goldust has been with the company for a long time cumulatively, he hasn't ever had the opportunity to main-event the biggest show of the year.

On the other hand, some of the biggest stars in WWE over the last 20 years like John Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels and Roman Reigns have repeatedly closed the show.

While thousands of wrestlers have come and gone through the WWE at various times, only a select handful have had the honor of closing the Showcase of the Immortals.

When the wrestling business was still young and starting to enter the mainstream, one man was heavily relied upon during the infancy of WrestleMania - Hulk Hogan.

While he might not have been the best in-ring talents, he was a superstar who's larger than life persona captivated millions of fans and who helped popularize the sport even further.

But once Hogan moved on to WCW and beyond, WWF and then WWE were forced to rely on other professional wrestlers to close down the biggest show of the year.

So just which superstars past and present have headlined the most WrestleMania events in their careers?

#6 Tie - Various superstars including Macho Man Randy Savage, Batista and Randy Orton (2 Main Events each)

The Mega Powers exploded at WrestleMania 5 in 1989.
The Mega Powers exploded at WrestleMania 5 in 1989.

Mr. T and Roddy Piper faced off at the first two events, first in a tag team match and lastly in a boxing match.

Macho Man Randy Savage was involved in the WWF Championship match in two straight years, winning the title in a tournament by defeating Ted DiBiase at WrestleMania 4 and then defending it the following year against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 5.

Yokozuna entered both WrestleMania 9 and 10 respectively as WWF Champion. He defended the title against Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart respectively in 1993 and 1994.

Hart then defended the title in his second 'Mania main event, in the classic 60 minute Iron Man match with Shawn Michaels.

Batista also main-evented WrestleMania twice, the first being his big babyface turn in 2005 at WrestleMania 21 when he challenged Triple H and again at WrestleMania 30 when he was in a triple threat match with Daniel Bryan and another man who main-evented 'Mania twice in Randy Orton.

Orton also main-evented against fellow Evolution stablemate Triple H when the two fought over the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXV in 2009.

Stone Cold Steve Austin, one of the biggest stars in wrestling in the late 90s and early 2000s, finally got his first main event when he beat Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 14.

His other two main events involved challenging the Rock for the WWE Championship at both WresleMania 15 and 17 respectively.

Someone who could see an uptick in his number of main events if he closes the show against Seth Rollins this year is Brock Lesnar.

His coming out party was in 2003 at WrestleMania 19 when he challenged then champion Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship.

But since he quickly left the WWE almost as soon as he skyrocketed to the top, he saw a huge gap between 'Mania main events.

More recently as well all know, he defended the WWE Championship in what turned out to be a triple threat against both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 31 in 2015.

He also main-evented last year vs. Roman Reigns in the Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 34.

#4 Tie - Roman Reigns and the Undertaker (4 Main Events each)

His final two main events the Undertaker took part in were in 2010 at WrestleMania 26 in a 'Streak vs. Career' match against Shawn Michaels which the Undertaker won.

The final main event he participated in was against the other man with four main events under his belt, Roman Reigns, in 2017 in a No Holds Barred match at WrestleMania 33.

Including his match with the Undertaker, Reigns challenged Brock Lesnar at both WrestleMania 31 in 2015 and at WrestleMania 34 for the WWE Championship and Universal Championship respectively.

His other main event slot was when he challenged Triple H for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 32 in 2016. He has main-evented the last four events.

Shawn Michaels may have started out as a brash young superstar who was held backstage pull, but his in-ring prowess was never in doubt.

He first main-evented the big show against rival Bret Hart at WrestleMania 12 in 1996 in an Iron Man match.

His next defense helped kick off the Stone Cold Steve Austin Era in WWE when he defended the WWF Championship in 1998 at the 14th WrestleMania.

Michaels' next main event was a triple threat against Chris Benoit and Triple H at WrestleMania 20 in 2004.

His final two main events included challenging John Cena for the WWE Championship in 2007 at WrestleMania 23 and then in his retirement match at WrestleMania 26 in 2010 against the Deadman.

The Rock headlined three events at the end of the 1990s, including his first one at WrestleMania 15 in 1999 against Stone Cold.

He was then a participant in the Fatal Four Way for the title against Triple H, Mankind and the Big Show in the following year's final match and then he defended the WWF Championship against Stone Cold at WrestleMania 17 in 2001.

The Rock then headlined back-to-back 'Manias against John Cena at the 28th and 29th iterations of WrestleMania in 2012 and 2013.

He battled Triple H and Shawn Michaels back-to-back in 2006 and 2007 at WrestleMania 22 and 23 and his last main event was WrestleMania 27 in 2011 against the Miz.

#2 Triple H (7 Main Events)

Unsurprisingly, Triple H has main-evented the second-most WrestleManias in WWE history.

And his list of opponents is filled with some of the biggest names in wrestling history including the Rock, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Batista and the Undertaker.

His first main event was at WrestleMania 2000 when he defended the then WWF Championship in a Fatal Four Way against the Rock, Mankind and the Big Show.

The Game would then go on to dominate the scene in the 2000s, main-eventing WrestleMania 18 in 2002 against Chris Jericho for the Undisputed WWE Championship and then again in 2004 at WrestleMania 20 vs. Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship.

He would then go on to headline the next two events, WrestleManias 21 and 22 against Batista and John Cena respectively.

His last main event was at WrestleMania 32 in 2016 when he defended the WWE Championship against Roman Reigns.

#1 Hulk Hogan (8 Main Events)

The Hulkster unsurprisingly takes the top spot on the list.

The man synonymous with the industry in its early stages has main-evented the most WrestleMania events in wrestling history.

Hulk Hogan was the biggest star of the time and dominated the main-event scene as such. Since Mr. McMahon wanted to get as many mainstream eyes on his product, he thrust Hogan into a position he held on to until the mid-1990s.

Hogan took part in the main event of the first three WrestleManias, tagging with Mr. T against Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper in 1985. He again main-evented in 1986 in a Steel Cage Match for the WWF Championship against the late King Kong Bundy.

He also headlined the third WrestleMania event in the iconic match where he bodyslammed Andre the Giant.

After a one-year hiatus from headlining, Hogan would main event the next five events, including both WrestleMania 5 against Macho Man Randy Savage and then WrestleMania 6 against the Ultimate Warrior.

At WrestleMania 7 in 1991, the US was in the midst of the Gulf War and he challenged Iraqi sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter for the WWF Championship. Of course, the All-American Hero won.

He would then go on to main event both WrestleMania 8 in a non-title match against Sid Justice and then WrestleMania 9 against Yokozuna when he basically showed up, challenged Yokozuna and won the title in about two minutes.
