Will Roman Reigns be picked as the captain of the SmackDown men's team?
Will Roman Reigns be picked as the captain of the SmackDown men's team?

We are about two weeks away from the Survivor Series PPV, and the build-up has been pretty intense and surprising due to the addition of a third brand in the brand wars. In the past, Survivor Series has been about RAW vs SmackDown, but this is the first time NXT will take part in the PPV. We have seen a few invasions so far, and there is no doubt there will be more in the next few weeks.

WWE announced Seth Rollins as the captain of team RAW, which brings us to Team SmackDown. Until now, no Superstar has been confirmed as the captain, and the team could start shaping up from next week's show, given that there are quite a few talented Superstars on the roster who could be a part of the team.

In this article, we will have a look at a few wrestlers who could end up on Team SmackDown. Who do you think will be on the team? Comment your thoughts below.

#5 Cesaro

There are not enough words to express how underutilized Cesaro has been in his WWE career. There have been phases where he's been on TV regularly, such as his time in The Bar, where he won several tag team titles. But, he is worthy of much more, and unfortunately has never earned a big draw in WWE.

During the recent WWE Draft, SmackDown drafted Cesaro to their roster. Some fans expected that this move would provide him with a change in scenery and an eventual push, yet, it has been quite the opposite so far. At Crown Jewel 2019, he lost to Mansoor and is directionless now.

Last week on SmackDown, he beat Ali and Shorty G in a tag team match with Shinsuke Nakamura. WWE may be giving him a few victories before putting him on team SmackDown and might even allow him to shine at the PPV. Age is not on his side, so they better make the most of him while he can still be great.

#4 King Corbin

King Corbin could also be a member of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series 2019. Despite winning the King of the Ring tournament, he hasn't been as prominently featured as he should be. Fans have gotten a little tired of his shtick, but it's undeniable that he has improved leaps and bounds over the last year.

After his feud with Shorty G, he was a part of Team Flair at Crown Jewel 2019, where they lost to Team Hogan. He's also had some issues with Roman Reigns and picked up a feud against The Big Dog a few weeks ago. During last week's episode, they collided in a match, and Corbin won with the help of shenanigans.

This extends the feud as expected and could play a part in deciding SmackDown's fate at Survivor Series. If both these men are on the same team, they could focus on each other instead of working together, which could cost them the match. Therefore, Corbin should be on team SmackDown to create some intrigue.

#3 Shorty G

Shorty G has been quite a bit of a revelation over the last few months in WWE. Despite struggling to get any screen time and momentum for the better part of 2019, he now finds himself prominently featured on SmackDown. This push started with the King of the Ring tournament, where he reached the finals before losing to Baron Corbin.

Although he lost the match, fans got behind him due to his ability in the ring and his babyface persona. He has now embraced the Shorty G name and continues his path to inspiring everyone. At the moment, he lacks a solid feud, but WWE shouldn't stop using him. To continue his momentum, they should place him on Team SmackDown.

We may see Corbin included in the team as well. Shorty G has to put his differences with Corbin aside and be a part for the team, which could end up backfiring if the latter turns on the team. Regardless, it helps to make things more intriguing, and so he should be put on the five-member team.

#2 Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman has a history of being booked inconsistently by WWE. Despite being one of the most popular Superstars on the roster for the last few years, fans have always been let down by his booking. It's getting to a point where it's easy to see him as a loser rather than a monster, as he has often been booked to lose big matches.

After his loss to Tyson Fury at Crown Jewel 2019, Strowman doesn't have any feud set in stone. During last week's SmackDown, he teamed up with Fury to attack the B-Team. Whether they will be a tag team in the future remains a doubt, but nevertheless, WWE should put him on the SmackDown team.

In 2018, he was a part of team RAW that won at the PPV, and he gave it all, eliminating four men. A similar performance at this year's Survivor Series could be the shot in the arm that he needs to get back to the top.

#1 Roman Reigns (Captain)

Reigns

Roman Reigns is the most obvious choice to captain the SmackDown men's team at Survivor Series. A few years ago, he was one of the most hated wrestlers in the world, but he has turned the tables around and is in an ideal position on SmackDown. Fans are now solidly behind him and continue to cheer him on at every show.

At Crown Jewel 2019, he secured the victory for Team Hogan in a five on five tag team match. Since then, fans have been speculating about what's next for Reigns on SmackDown. He's been in a feud with King Corbin, and it looks like this feud will continue for the next few months. Last week on SmackDown, he lost to King Corbin due to interference from Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.

To extend the feud, they can place both wrestlers on Team SmackDown. There is also the possibility of dissension between Reigns and Corbin that could cost the match for SmackDown. He has all the credibility in the world, and therefore, WWE should hand him the captaincy.
