WWE: Top 5 strongest wrestlers in the past 15 years

ryback-1872005

I was first drawn to professional wrestling because of the larger-than-life characters portrayed by the wrestlers. These larger than life figures are more often than not, some of the strongest people in sports and showcase absolutely superhuman feats of strength which makes us realise that we will never be like them in our lives! The wrestlers themselves aren’t given enough credit like the strongmens of the world get, because they do what the so-called strongmen can’t from an athletic standpoint.

With the resurgence of showcasing feats of strength in the company, I felt it would be a good idea to run down a list of the top 5 strongest wrestlers to have displayed feats of strength in the WWE in the last 15 years. This list is not exhaustive and certain omissions are glaring but necessary, keeping in mind that the criteria is ‘WWE’.

Ryback

While the character of Ryback on the outset seems like it’s been ripped off fellow powerhouse Goldberg, what amazes is the fact that ‘The Human Wrecking Ball’ is every bit as strong as the latter and in the first 6 months of his debut, displayed some amazing feats of strength that got him a lot of fans among kids and men who had not seen anything like him in a very long time.Among his many displays of strength, the most notable being his finishing move ‘Shell Shock’ being delivered on guys like Mark Henry, Tensai, Khali etc. The move requires tremendous amount of strength and Ryback owns the move like no one else can…or will!

Mark Henry

Mark Henry, just going by his track-record and credentials, would top any list of strength. But in his time as a pro-wrestler, must be because of the diktats from the office, the amount of feats of strength he has displayed has been surprisingly less. But, one look at the guy and it is evident that the guy can do anything he would want to and the few times he has decided to showcase it, it’s been pretty impressive.

From slamming the likes of the Big Show and Khali multiple times, Henry is also probably the only guy to have pressed Goldberg over his head, in his entire career. Apart from that, his credentials as a strongman competitor have been put to test many times on WWE TV where he has pulled trucks, stopped cars and lifted insane amounts of weight!

Antonio Cesaro

antonio-cesaro-1871942Pound-for-pound, the general consensus for him among the fans and the wrestlers alike seems to be that, he is one of the strongest to have ever competed in the WWE. Now that is a hell of a statement in itself if you ask me!

Cesaro, who looks like he has been cut from stone, has been wowing the audiences with his version of the Giant Swing where he effortlessly lifts opponents, at times much than him, by their legs and goes for a twirl which lasts forever and at the end, he doesn’t even look like he broke a sweat in the process. Equally impressive is his finishing manoeuvre ‘The Neutraliser’ which he has laid out quite a few big guys with.

John Cena

The people who hate Cena are quite vocal with their thoughts and often have termed him as ‘Super-Cena’ given their disdain for how he seems to conquer every obstacle thrown in front of him. While his character has been quite stale for a long time now, the feats of strength that the guy has displayed over the years has made me wonder if he indeed is superhuman!Apart from the guy who is no.1 on this list, I haven’t seen anyone lift Big Show up so effortlessly and Cena has done it the most number of times too. At one point during his match at WM 25, he had both Show & Edge up on his shoulder at the same time, which equals to over 700 pounds! If for nothing else, the Cenation leader definitely deserves his props for being as strong as an ox.

Brock Lesnar

And then there is Brock Lesnar! If he wouldn’t have been living out in the woods and going on TV to inflict the damage on hapless opponents when he feels the need for it, I would have been genuinely concerned about my well-being. No moniker describes him best as the current one – ‘The Beasr reincarnate’.While Cena lifts people up effortlessly for his AA, Lesnar would do it for his F-5 which is way more tough, and was doing it as consistently and seemingly with even lesser effort! He once picked up The Big Show (back when he was legit 500 pounds) ran halfway across the ring and then slammed him on the canvas. I doubt whether such a feat can ever be duplicated!
