Career

In 2003, Jafari registered as "BirdmanXZ6" on Newgrounds and published five animations featuring anthropomorphic onions. He created a YouTube account with the same name in 2006. In 2010, Jafari posted videos on Screwattack.com evaluating games like GoldenEye 007, where he also met the site's founder, Austin "PeanutButterGamer" Hargrave.

Jafari launched the JonTronShow YouTube channel on August 31, 2010. He claimed that the show was originally going to be called JonTron 2.0 but changed it since JonTron was "reminiscent of technology", similar to "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!".

"Daikatana review - JonTron (Part 1)" is the first video on Jafari's channel. In the video, he reviews the game Daikatana.

Jafari evaluates single-player games as well as games with a certain theme, series, or genre in each episode of JonTron. His green-cheeked parakeet, Jacques, who has a synthetic voice, is usually with him. For these episodes, Jafari frequently uses aspects of sketch humor to show his reactions to the video game he is reviewing.

Early on, when reviewing video games, he expressed a preference for Nintendo games and those created by the British game developer Rareware, especially those from the 1990s. He was, however, very critical of games created after then, such as Star Fox Adventures and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. For the NES, relatively obscure titles like Monster Party and Takeshi's Challenge, as well as several video game versions of well-known franchises like Hercules, Barbie, Home Alone, Star Wars, and Conan the Barbarian, have been reviewed by Jafari.

Jafari claims that JonTron started gaining popularity after a post on Reddit showcasing Jafari's review of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System game DinoCity rose to the top of the website.

JonTron's StarCade is a spin-off web series that Jafari published on his YouTube channel in May 2015. In it, he reviews video games that are inspired by the Star Wars saga. Several Internet stars and actors, including Egoraptor, Markiplier, Nathan Barnatt, Ross O'Donovan, and Kyle Hebert, made brief appearances in the web series. The nine-episode series was created by Maker Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company, and ended in December 2015.

Jafari has continued to expand the scope of media discussed on his show beyond just conventional video games throughout 2019 and 2020. Flex Tape, Soulja Boy's SouljaGame system, actress Gwyneth Paltrow's company Goop and its web series The Goop Lab, actor Dan Aykroyd's Crystal Head Vodka line, and the 2007 television programme Kid Nation are a few notable instances of subjects.

Jafari has worked with a number of YouTube channels, including the h3h3Productions channel run by Ethan and Hila Klein. Hila Klein worked as a producer for JonTron from October 2015 to August 2016. On James Rolfe's Let's Play programme James & Mike Mondays, Jafari has made an appearance.

Jafari has provided voice overs for "Did You Know Gaming?" segments focusing on Disney franchise games as well as The Legend of Zelda, Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong, Pokémon, and Pikmin.

Animator Arin "Egoraptor" Hanson, who Jafari had been a fan of since the early 2000s, messaged him on YouTube not long after his review of DinoCity became well-known. They subsequently grew close, and in July 2012, Jafari and Hanson announced in videos on both of their channels that they would be starting a Let's Play series called Game Grumps. Jafari quit Game Grumps to concentrate on JonTron on June 25, 2013, and Dan Avidan, the singer of Ninja Sex Party, took his position on the same day.

Before leaving Game Grumps, Jafari and Hanson made an appearance in a Polaris-produced Pacific Rim promotional film from the year 2013. Jafari had an appearance in the Hanson-helmed music video for "Let's Get This Terrible Party Started" by Ninja Sex Party around the same period.
