Thursday, May 16, 2024 saw the spoilers and raw scans for the upcoming 260th chapter of author and illustrator Gege Akutami’s original Jujutsu Kaisen manga series be released. While not official sources, the series’ spoiler process has historically proven accurate enough relative to Shueisha’s release that fans can trust these leaks.

Likewise, Jujutsu Kaisen fans were shocked to see what appeared to be a returned and fully healed Satoru Gojo in the final panels of chapter 260’s alleged raw scans. While the series hasn’t confirmed this yet in any way, shape, or form, the overall appearance of whoever stood across from Sukuna in the issue’s final panels is strikingly similar to Gojo’s.

However, what’s important isn’t whether or not this is actually Gojo, but what this vision from Sukuna could signify in the larger context of the series’ imminent conclusion. In other words, Gojo’s return as seemingly having begun in the latest Jujutsu Kaisen leaks is, in any scenario, the biggest death flag Sukuna has received yet.

Gojo’s return is irrelevant to Jujutsu Kaisen’s latest and biggest Sukuna death flag

In reality, however, whether or not this is truly the start of Gojo’s return to Jujutsu Kaisen is irrelevant in the context of the scene’s significance as a Sukuna death flag. If it truly is Gojo, then he clearly returned to the battlefield because he’s capable of fighting. Likewise, with how damaged Sukuna has become, a revived and refreshed Gojo would almost certainly wipe the floor with him.

Yet even if it isn’t Gojo and is merely a vision from Sukuna, there’s significant evidence to suggest that this is still a major death flag for the character. The most obvious and significant comparison would be the final moments of Kento Nanami, during which he saw his late high school classmate and fellow sorcerer Yu Haibara appear before him.

A similar scene played out during Gojo’s death earlier on in the manga's currently ongoing arc. Before actually being confirmed as dead, both fans and Gojo saw a vision play out in which he was sitting in an airport with many of his deceased friends and enemies. This included the aforementioned Nanami and Haibara, as well as Masamichi Yaga, Riko Amanai, Suguru Geto, Toji Fushiguro, and even Misato Kuroi.

While one may argue in response that Sukuna’s relationship with Gojo was of a much different context than those mentioned above, this may not actually be the case. Throughout the entirety of the series, the two have always been playful with each other when speaking. Furthermore, after Gojo’s death, Sukuna paid respects to his fellow “strongest” and even did so with an obviously genuine and legitimate smile on his face.

Sukuna and Gojo’s similar titles as history’s strongest sorcerer and the strongest sorcerer of today, respectively, further supports the idea that their bond was truly a friendly one. No one could understand the burden of their respective titles as much as they did for each other, and it showed via their fight, the joy they each showed during it, and Sukuna’s words after his victory.

Thus, with the two clearly having a positive relationship in the end, Jujutsu Kaisen’s latest development stands as the biggest Sukuna death flag no matter how it’s looked at. If Gojo is alive and able to fight, then Sukuna’s fate is unquestionably sealed. If Sukuna is merely seeing a vision of his former “friend,” then previous uses of this same motif would suggest that Sukuna is at death’s door, if not having already crossed the threshold.
