John Salley advises YouTuber Vladimir Lyubovny on ways to overcome grudges: “I got a lot of boos in Detroit”

John Salley gave YouTuber Vladimir Lyubovny a video on how to move beyond grudges. Salley shared some of the things that he picked up during his NBA career. The 4-time NBA champion sat down with Lyubovny, who is better known as DJ Vlad.

“I got a lot of boos in Detroit,” Salley said.

Lyubovny shared an experience that he had with ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith and how he felt slighted by the broadcaster. As the YouTube content creator spoke of his issue with Smith, Salley advised him to let the grudge go.

Salley said that along with the fans who enjoyed meeting him, some also booed him at one point. Salley began his 11-year career with the Pistons, winning two titles in his six seasons with that organization.

Who is John Salley and how did he get four NBA titles?

John "Spider" Salley was drafted by the Detroit Pistons with the 11th pick in 1986. The former Georgia Tech star came to the team as it was ascending to one of the powers in the Eastern Conference. Salley became an important member of the “Bad Boy” Pistons.

During Salley’s six seasons in Detroit, the team went to three straight NBA Finals between 1988 and 1990 and won two championships. He was part of a front-line rotation that included Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, Bill Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn and James Edwards.

The power forward/center was traded to the Miami Heat in 1992.

After his stint with the Heat, he was picked up by the Toronto Raptors in the 1995 expansion draft. He eventually left the Raptors in the middle of the season after he and the organization agreed to a contract buyout.

Salley then signed on with his former rivals, the Chicago Bulls, and joined the historic 72-10 team in 1995-96. That season, he won his third NBA title.

Salley then played in Greece for a short stint before taking two years away from basketball. He came back for one more season with the 1999-2000 LA Lakers as a backup to Shaquille O’Neal. That season, he win his fourth championship. He was the first player to win titles with three different franchises.

Salley, who has made numerous movie and television appearances, had his No. 22 retired by Georgia Tech. He averaged 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in his NBA career, starting 228 of 748 games in the regular season.
