Deion Sanders claps back at Oregon HC Dan Lanning’s “playing for clicks” comment - “Did you hear any other speech?”

Deion Sanders has never been one to shy away from the spotlight, and his comments on the “Full Send” podcast are no exception. Coach Prime took aim at Oregon head coach Dan Lanning's infamous "playing for clicks" remark.

Last season, Lanning jibed at the Deion Sanders’ Colorado saying,

“They’re playing for clicks, we’re playing for wins,” just before the Ducks trumped Colorado 42-6 in their Pac-12 opener. It was not until months later that Coach Prime addressed Lanning's comment, pointing out the irony.

“It’s funny how you say that, but the camera was on when you say that,” Sanders quipped. “Did you hear any other speech that he made during the whole season. So who is playing for the click?” said the Colorado HC.

Sanders dismissed Lanning’s take that his team needs extra exposure. He said,

“This is what I really do. In high school, you can date it back on YouTube or whatever, this is what I do with my team, this is who we are. It’s not playing for something or playing for a click, why would I need exposure?”

Despite the hype, Colorado ended the 2023 CFB season with a 4-8 record, setting the stage for a crucial second year under Sanders.

ESPN's Pete Thamel has high expectations for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes in the 2024 college football season. On the College GameDay Podcast with Rece Davis, Thamel discussed Colorado's unique position under Sanders' leadership.

“I think Colorado, again, will be the most interesting program in college football. Like, they have continued to be relentlessly fascinating.”

He praised Sanders for his unfiltered personality, saying, “That is what Deion has been.”

“For all of Colorado’s improvement from one win to four wins, they were still a 1-8 conference team last year,” Thamel stated.

One significant challenge for Sanders is Colorado's roster overhaul. The offseason saw 48 players leave through the transfer portal, with 39 new players arriving to fill the gaps. Key departures like Dylan Edwards and Alton McCaskill, have left holes in the lineup. All eyes will be on how Sanders handles these hurdles and leads his team through another critical season.
