In a heated Battle of Alberta clash at Rogers Place on Saturday, the Edmonton Oilers' Mattias Janmark found himself bloodied after a spirited scrap with the Calgary Flames' Blake Coleman.

With the Flames holding a 3-2 lead, tensions escalated when Coleman delivered a bone-crunching hit to Oilers captain Connor McDavid along the sideboards.

Janmark wasted no time in coming to McDavid's defense, immediately dropping the gloves with Coleman.

Here's the video:

As both traded fierce blows, helmets flew off. Janmark fought valiantly but emerged bloodied, bearing the toll of the intense exchange.

Both Janmark and Coleman received five-minute fighting penalties. The referees intervened, quelling the confrontation, leaving Janmark battered but still committed to his team's cause.

Mattias Janmark's Journey and Contribution with the Edmonton Oilers

In the current NHL season, Mattias Janmark despite a recent scoring drought has found his rhythm, netting goals in consecutive games against the Flames and the Bruins. His scoring streak comes after enduring 10 contests without a point.

With four goals and nine points in 44 appearances this season, Janmark has demonstrated his offensive capabilities, supported by 46 shots on net, 35 hits, and 32 penalty minutes.

Originally from Danderyd, Sweden, Janmark's talent blossomed when the Detroit Red Wings selected him in the third round of the 2013 NHL Draft. A later trade brought him to the Dallas Stars where he flourished, tallying 15 goals and 29 points in his standout rookie season.

However, his career met hardship when a rare genetic knee condition forced him to miss the entire 2016-17 campaign. Janmark signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers in 2023. In his first season with the Oilers, he recorded 25 points, including 10 goals and 15 assists.

Blake Coleman: Flames' Offensive Dynamo

Blake Coleman has been a vital asset for the Calgary Flames this season. In 58 games, he has tallied 23 goals, 22 assists, totaling an impressive 45 points.

Coleman's journey found success with the New Jersey Devils in the 2011 draft's third round. His breakout followed in 2018-19 with 22 goals over 78 games, establishing scoring reliability.

Subsequent seasons maintained his scoring prowess, including a Stanley Cup-winning stint on the pivotal Tampa Bay Lightning in 2019-20. In July 2021, Coleman signed a $29.4 million contract across six years with the Calgary Flames, further solidifying his status as a key player.
