Do we need IPL Style Football?

There had been news for quite a while that, there will be an IPL style football
competition, fun and action packed just like the super hit Cricket version.
Business tycoons cum celebrities such as Shilpa Shetty and John Abraham
have repeatedly shown interest in starting a high profile football league.
It is quite natural that businessmen will come into the league only for the sole
motive of gaining profit. But what about Indian football? Will it gain anything
from this kind of league which shall be played for a shorter time span like 2
months? Lets have a look…
Foreign Recruits
One thing is quite clear that it will definitely include foreigners which will be the main focus of attraction for the viewers. But, one can’t expect to hire some high quality foreigners for 2 months to play at a country which is placed near 150′s in the FIFA ranking. Moreover, the player’s club will not be willing to leave a full time player for two months for this kind of league and leave them vulnerable to injuries. So, what can we expect is some retired or to be retired pros to play at the league and show some glimpses of their past.

Stadiums
To start this kind of league will definitely require world class stadiums which is the first and foremost thing to attract huge spectators and providing quality football. We have already seen how CWG 2010 gave us some beauties which includes the charming JLN Stadium. Moreover there had been news that IMG Reliance will come forward to build some world class hi-tech stadiums. This will provide a huge boost to the national league too.
Fans, Fans and more Fans
What makes cricket the most followed sports in India is number of fans it draws for the game. The inaugural of the IPL drew even more crowd for the game due to the smart thinking of BCCI. If Indian Football becomes eye catchy just like cricket, then we will definitely have a major boost in its viewership and fan following.
World wide recognition
What restricts Indian players to play in foreign leagues is the lack of its recognition in the world stage. We do have some quality players in our line-ups which includes the likes of Steven Dias, Subrata Pal but they hardly get offers from any good clubs in Europe due to the lack of recognition of Indian football in the world. Once they know us they will definitely send scouts to spot our talents. If the league becomes a hit in India, more sponsors will come which will help us to gain more spectators from other parts of the world.
Besides its advantages, the league have some disadvantages too which includes the chances of injuries to players and much tighter schedule. One might think that the money used in the league should be used for the betterment of the present national league and improving the infrastructure. But, why will they spend their hard earned money for a league which gives zero returns. They will bank on a different league which involves huge investments and will rely on the revenue generated from it.
