Indian Team for the World Cup Announced

India's World Cup Squad

India’s Squad for the ICC World Cup is declared a short while ago. Most of the players selected were as per expectations. But the selectors outsmarted the analysts with some strange moves. While the team selected has three spinners, the selectors have overlooked the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma, Sreesanth and Prgyan Ojha.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni will captain the fifteen member team selected out of the thirty probables declared before. There is no back up wicket keeper in the team.

There are seven batsmen in the team namely Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni. Yusuf Pathan is the only genuine all rounder in the team.

Bowling department is led by Zaheer Khan and other pacers in the team are Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar. There are three spinners in the team. Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla and R Aswin have made the cut. Fact that the world cup is being organised in Indian subcontinent may have influenced the decision to have three spinners in the team. But Pragyan Ojha not being selected is a bit strange as he is being considered as the second best spinner in the country right now and has been performing.

While there are minor injuries to players like Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir and Praveen they are chosen expecting that they will be fit by the time World Cup starts.
