IPL Governing Council Rethinks Theatrical Rights

After deciding not to sell the theatrical rights of the IPL this season, the governing council of the event is rethinking about the prospect of selling the rights.

Owing to the fact that theatres recorded 100% occupancy for the just concluded Cricket World Cup on the day India plays, the council is hoping for the same kind of response from the audience for the IPL matches.

Initially the council decided not to sell the rights as IPL matches in theatre hardly draw audience. It might also be because of the controversies surrounding the manner in which ouster IPL czar Lalit Modi went on a contract signing spree.

However, with things turning around, sources are of the opinion that some sort of compromise will be reached within few days, where contracts for screening at least the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals in multiplexes will be signed up.

Moreover there is also a legal side involve in signing the theatrical rights as the IPL body is required to protect the commercial interests of broadcast rights holder for the Indian subcontinent Multi Screen Media.
