AIFF May Act Tough on Sunil Chhetri

Express concern for your Coach and you are in trouble

On the day when Bob Houghton’s second hearing was postponed by the AIFF as the constitute panel hasn’t been able to go through all the documents, the AIFF issued a press release reacting strongly to Sunil Chhetri‘s remark on Twitter expressing his concern and gratitude for National Coach.

Chhetri’s tweet read “thinking and analysing everyt. that bob has done for us,infact football in india, can’t thank him enough!it ll be a shame if he has to leave”“N even worse,we charge him for racism, havnt seen a gentleman like him, leave behind d world class coaching n vast knowledge…sorry bob!”

Reacting strongly to Sunil’s tweet AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das said: “The AIFF is extremely perturbed and concerned that National Team players are making such unnecessary comments relating to AIFF’s functioning and on the issue of coach Bob Houghton as well.”

The Gen Secy. even said, “The matter will be put up for discussion at AIFF’s next Executive Committee meeting and action may be taken, if necessary.” He also stressed, “The AIFF is also in the process of strengthening the Code of Conduct for the players as well as the officials and it would be implemented very soon.”

The national team striker was one among the seven players who had signed a memorandum accusing former Team India manager Pradip Chowdhury, and was then issued a warning by the AIFF prior to the AFC Asian Cup earlier this year.

Chhetri’s tweet only expressed his concern about Bob leaving and expressed gratitude for his coach. There is not a word in the tweet where he challenges AIFF functioning. The fact is that AIFF is not in a mood to see any support coming up for Bob Houghton. The strong statement made on Chhetri by the Gen.Secy is an indication that AIFF is not keen on retaining the British Coach.
