Team Jakarta win Tokyo Masters 3x3 Basketball

Team Jakarta (Indonesia) won the Tokyo Masters 3×3 Basketball tour held at Tokyo, Japan to qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World tour final scheduled to be held at Istanbul, Turkey from 4 – 5 October 2013.

Team Jakarta will be joined by Team Nagoya (Japan). Team Jakarta and Team Nagoya played in the final in which Team Jakarta beat Team Nagoya 16 – 15. Team Jakarta beat Team Beirut (Lebanon) 14 – 12 and Team Kawasaki (Japan) in the quarterfinal and semifinal respectively en route to the final, while Team Nagoya beat Team Yokohama (Japan) 15 – 14 in another quarterfinal and Team Tokyo (Japan) in the semifinal to enter the final of the Tokyo Masters 3×3 basketball event.

A two day event, Tokyo Masters 3×3 basketball, was played in Tokyo right in front of the iconic Fuji TV building with full bleachers on both days and a great festive-like atmosphere, to which contribution was made by well-known comedian Yoshimoto and the most successful players in the history of Japanese basketball in Yuta Tabuse and Yuko Oga, who both played professionally in the US in the NBA and the WNBA respectively. Total of 12 teams participated in the Tokyo Masters.

India was represented by Team Chennai and was placed in pool A. Team Chennai lost to Team Nagoya 7 -11, lost to Team Vladivostok (Russia) 7 – 13 and won against Team Takao (Taiwan) 12 – 11. Team Chennai failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Masters. Team Chennai was represented by Bopanna Buncy, Akilan Pari, Ramachandran Ramakrishnan, and Chandrabose Seenivasan.
