Spain U18 team celebrate their victory

Spain U18 women’s team won the FIBA Europe Women’s U-18 Championship beating France 60 – 46 in the final.

Spain took the first quarter 18-8 while France took the second quarter 22 – 14. The third quarter was a tie with both teams scoring 11 points each. The Spaniards then routed France in the last quarter 17-5 to lift the title.

Leticia Romero scored 22 points and took 12 rebounds for Spain while Clémentine Morateur netted 17 points for France. Leticia Romero of Spain was named the Most Valuable Player of the Championship.

MVP Leticia Romero of Spain, Dutch play-maker Laura Cornelius, French forward Marine Johannes, forward Aleksandra Crvendakic of Serbia and Dragana Stankovic of Serbia were named in the all-championship team. Turkey were handed the Fair Play Award for the impressive sportsmanship they showed throughout the duration of the competition.

The result not only capped an unbeaten mark for Spain in the championship, it also completed an unbeaten run for all the Spanish women’s teams in all European competition this summer. Spain claimed gold in all the championship of all European Categories this year.

Spain’s senior Women’s team, went undefeated en route to the title at the EuroBasket Women in June, beating hosts France 70-69 in the final. At the beginning of August, Spain rolled to victory in Bulgaria at the U1-6 European Championship for Women and finished on top of the podium after a 54-49 triumph over the Czech Republic. Spain was also unbeaten in Samsun, Turkey, at the U20 European Championship for Women and won gold.
