The 24-year-old German midfielder Mesut Ozil was said to be interested in joining Manchester United. But the bid never came from the English Champions resulting in him signing for the Gunners for a reported fee of £42.5 million.
Manchester United were rumoured to be interested in buying the playmaker as Real Madrid were ready to sell the player for any bid close to £38 million.
According to Graham Hunter, a journalist of international repute and closely associated with Spanish football, claimed that Ozil and his father were eagerly waiting for a call from the Premier League champions but the call never came.
