Rob Baan is set to continue as AIFF technical director for one more year, Sportskeeda can confirm. The 70-year-old was appointed in October 2011, when he signed a two-year contract and there was growing speculation that Baan would be leaving his post at the end of his term.

The former Netherlands and Australia technical director also suffered a blackout back in July while conducting a coaching course in Mumbai and there were suggestions that an Indian would replace him as the new technical director.

However the AIFF have managed to convince Baan for a one-year extension and confirming the same, AIFF general secretary Kushal Das told Sportskeeda, “He was in two minds but we convinced him that since his designed youth development programme is still in it’s early days we want him to stay for another year at least.”

Baan devised the highly publicised ‘Lakshya 2022′ plan and Indian football is looking to move forward by following the Dutchman’s inputs. He is currently in Goa, overseeing an AFC B license coaching course and will next be heading to Kerala for conducting an AFC A license course.

He is expected to sign the new one-year contract after the completion of those two courses later this month.
