A considerable number of Indians want to see skateboarding as an Olympic sport

According to a new survey a large number of Indians want to see more extreme sports while many of them want skateboarding to be made an Olympic sport. YouGov research studied the behaviours and attitudes of more than 2,000 young men and women from 10 countries. Based on results of this research, The Next Generation Events report was released in Dubai at the Host Cities 2015 Summit. This report has chalked out top 10 trends for the future.

The report states that 92 per cent people in India want to see more extreme sports. The number of Indians who have expressed such wish, is larger than the number of people from anywhere else worldwide. This report also says that 92 per cent people in India feel that in the coming days they will engage with more major events. India’s 89 per cent believe that both mass participation event and spectator event are equally important. Young India’s 81 per cent feel that being host of any major event will benefit their city. According to these people, in the last four years FIFA World Cup has made a huge impact on them and they would like to see India hosting this international tournament.

This report’s research manager Zafar Shah told how major events bring people together. He told PTI, “Major events live long in the memory and provide moments we never forget. They entertain, educate and inspire us and they bring us together. What this study shows is that in the future, what sets events apart will be their ability to embrace emerging trends in preference, utilise new technology and envisage different, more engaging formats that win over a more switched-on and demanding audience.”

The Next Genration Events report has also pointed out how culture and music festivals have joined hands with traditional sporting occasions and the growth of such merging. Almost seven in 10 young Indians chose festivals, arts and culture events when they were asked about the type of event that interests them the most. While eight in 10 such people feel nothing can ever beat “live” experience, over half think online is where they will be watching 2024 Olympic Games. Eight in 10 Indian youths suggested that to be successful, events in future need to keep up with innovations.
