2014 was a vital year for the archers. The much-awaited World Cup archery tournament was held in four preliminary phases, starting from 22nd April in Beijing. The rest three phases were held in Colombia, Turkey and then in Poland at different times. Finals were held only a month ago where the fans witnessed quite a few twists and turns. Other tournaments such as European 3D Championship, Indoor Para Archery World Cup, Asian Games, South Asian Grand Prix also drew public attention. Few records and milestones were achieved by the archers. Especially US archers captured the spotlight. In the 2014 Archery World Cup, only American archers won the titles in different categories. Archery Tournament Finds Place in Guinness Book of World Records

More than 13,000 archers participated in the archery competition held in Cebu. In fact, this tournament is supposed to be the biggest tournament ever held for the archers. Plus, the largest archery class with 745 students also was held at the same place. Both the events were recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. The participants of these two world records used improvised bows made from PVC pipes. The world record is created for highest number of people participating in same archery competition and is calculated by the total number of participants competing inside the tournament. The existing record holder for organizing the largest archery tournament was achieved by National Archery in School Program at Kentucky State Fair as well as Kentucky Exposition Center, with a total number of 9436 participants.

Archer won title for the fifth time

Two-time Archery World Cup winner, Brady Ellison qualified for 2014 World Cup Final for the fifth time. In the initial round of world cup championship held in Lausanne, he defeated the Olympic winner, Oh Jin Hyet.

Veteran lost the game to a newbie

The proficient archer of world archery circuit Peter Elzinga from Netherlands was defeated by Daniel Munoz from Colombia in the second leg of Archery World Cup 2014. Surprisingly, the Dutch archery star never won World Cup and the Colombian star went to the final for the first time this year. Earlier he went till the second phase only.

A clash of French titans at the archery ground

The archery superstar PJ Deloche and the reigning world cup winner Sebastien Peineau had head to head clash for men’s singles compound archery during the first leg of 2014 World Cup.

Surprises

Female world record holder Sara Lopez from Colombia reached the compound archery final event at Shanghai. To reach the last lap, she qualified the first leg and then the fourth stage at Wroclaw. A disaster occurred in Shanghai. Her device failed to work and the result was shocking. Her competitor Cansu Coskun won the game.

World Record for Korean archer

Recurve archer from Korea, Lee Woo Seok made a new record during ranking round at 2014 Youth Olympic Games. Two days later, he drilled twelve out of fifteen arrows into ten in the final against rising star Marcus Dalmeida from Brazil.

Asian Games Highlights

At Asian Games, shock and surprises waited for the audience. The audience in Incheon were numbed when the recurve men shot the final arrow of tiebreaker shoot-off in semifinals. Korean team members namely Lee Seungyun, OH JIn Hyek amd KU Bonchan were also in complete shock.

Talented German archers

Germany’s archer Florian Kahllund broke the arrow in third set of men’s recurve archery final game with his opponent Ku Bonchan at 2014 Archery World Cup’s third leg. When this archer’s arrow broke in the end of the final match, he turned to the second for shoot-off and ultimately got the gold medal in the championship. Kahllund knocked out World Champion Lee Seungyun during eliminations before lining up against Bonchan at Antalya tennis arena.

Archery is no longer a game played by a handful of people. The increasing number of tournaments, milestones achieved by the world archers only highlight its rising importance with each passing day.
