Washington, July 15 (IANS) Alice Coachman Davis, the first non-white female athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, died in south Georgia aged 90.

Davis's death was confirmed by her daughter, Evelyn Jones. Davis won the gold in the high jump at the 1948 London Olympic Games, with an American and Olympic record of 1.68 metres, according to USA Track and Field, the American governing body of the sport.

Davis was introduced to the USA Track and Field Hall of fame in 1975, and the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004.
