Rohini Raut tests positive, faces a four year ban if found guilty

In a doping test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency(NADA) on February 28th, the A sample of Nagpur’s international long-distance athlete Rohini Raut was found to be positive for steroids.

With the Rio Olympics just over 3 months away, the NADA decided to conduct the tests on athletes who have particpiated in various marathons and have triumphed in them. The officials from the agency collected the urine samples of athletes by paying a surprise visit to their residence.

Rohini received a notice from the NADA on the 23rd of March which stated that her samples tested positive during the first dope test.

As per the letter, the NADA doping control officer(DCO) collected samples from her and with the help of the DCO, she split them into to separate bottles. The Sample A was analysed by the laboratory in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency’s(WADA) international standards.

In that sample, the levels of 19-Norandrostenedione (Anabolic steroids) performance enhancement drugs were found to be at a concentration of 12 ng/ml, which is much higher than 2.5 ng/ml that is the WADA reporting decision limit.

Rohini has been charged by the NADA with the commission of the anti-doping violation. She has also been asked to respond to the notice within a week’s time. The Maharashtra Atheltics Association will reflect upon the issue during itsa Annual General Body meeting on the 26th of April.

Tha Athletics Federation of India have decided to suspend her till the inquiry is finished. Rohini faces a four year ban if found guilty of charges.
