Bolt, who is the current world-record holder at the 100m and 200m events, had initially signed up for the Jamaica national trials, due to be held this Thursday, to work on his form ahead of the IAAF Athletics Championships due to be held at the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing, the Chinese capital this August. He holds both of those titles at the games as well.
It was announced two days ago that Bolt had retired from the trials at extremely short notice, leading several people to speculate that there may be doping involved. Bolt’s manager, Ricky Simms, defended his client, saying that Bolt had never been entirely confirmed to participate in the trials at all.
The Jamaican, who at 28 is already one of the greatest names in his sport, is also due to participate in Diamond League games this season. For now, it appears as though his participation in those will go to plan.
Glen Mills, who coaches the six-time gold medal winner, was the person who took the final decision, according to manager Simms.
