Kidambi Srikanth couldn't win the decisive point

It was heartbreak for India’s Kidambi Srikanth in the final of the Indonesia Grand Prix Gold as he lost 21-15 13-21 22-24 to the second seed and home favourite Tommy Sugiarto in the summit clash on Sunday.

Game 1 began in a topsy-turvy manner with both players exchanging leads but at the 8-8 mark, the Indian took the lead and then maintained it at the interval mark to go 11-8 in front. He stretched his lead further after the break and despite Sugiarto making it 13-13, the Indian got the advantage back and carried forward to win 8 out of the next 10 points to win the opening game 21-15.

The second game saw the Indonesian make a strong comeback into the match as he took a 7-2 lead and then maintained the advantage throughout, not allowing the Indian any opportunity to make any inroads to win the game 21-13 and take the match into a decider.

The deciding game proved to be an absolutely thrilling affair as Srikanth fought back valiantly after being 14-19 down at one point to level scores at 20-20 to bring the match back on an even keel.

However, the Indian couldn't convert the two championship point opportunities that came his way while Sugiarto did so off his third attempt to win the game 24-22 and seal the title in front of a cheering home crowd.
