Badminton World Federation to provide chance for individuals & institutions to apply for research grants

The Badminton World Federation have come up with a useful initiative that could be beneficial for many aspiring researh students

The Badminton World Federation(BWF), the governing body for sport in the world, has come out and given research institutions and other individuals a chance to apply for research grants to help them in funding of applied sports science research in the sport.

The governing body has a budget of $50000 and those interested can apply for the grant, which would help them in their research projects in badminton. The applications to for taking up the grant can come either from institutions or individual academies, who are conducting or wish to pursue their research in one of the following fields:

1.Physiology

2.Biomechanics

3.Sports Psychology

4.Performance Analysis

5.Match Analysis

6.High-Performance pathways

7.Sports Anthropometry

8.Sports injuries/ injury prevention

9.Other areas as agreed by the BWF Sports Service Commission

The Sports Service Commission has three important goals and the grants aim to assist in achieving the three goals:

1.To encourage and widen interest and investment in applied research in Badminton.2.To improve the level and quantity of scientific material available to players, coaches and badminton practitioners.3. To contribute towards the increased knowledge of performance and safety at the international level – of coaches and players.

In addition, the BWF Sports Science Working Group has an important role to ensure that the present scientific research on the sport, particularly on performance and safety is made available to the coaches.

The early preliminary stages have utilised the services available from the Sportsdiscus database which is the Online Public Access Catalogue(OPAC) of the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) sports library, and the National Institute of Education Library.

A combined tally of 440 citations have been scanned and arranged in the following subject areas:
