Aditya Joshi, a 17-year-old from India, reaches the top spot in badminton rankings

The 17-year-old Madhya Pradesh shuttler Aditya Joshi has become the first Indian junior badminton player to become the World number 1, a release from the World Badminton Federation (WBF) confirmed.

Aditya, a native of Dhar, jumped 10 places from the 11 th position to the top spot by racking up 18,776 points with the victory in the national junior championship, held at Chandigarh last month, playing a vital role in his rise.

Aditya committed to playing the game as a five-year-old kid in 2001. His wide range of achievements include winning the gold medals in the Remensco Junior International tournament held in Russia and in the Asian Sub-Junior championship held in Japan, in 2011.

The MP shuttler, besides becoming the national champion in 2013, has also won a gold at the Pune Junior International tournament and a silver in the Senior National championship.

His parents Atul Joshi and Hemalata Joshi and his coach Amit Kulkarni expressed their delight on hearing the news, as the relatives thronged the tribal spot, according to zeenews.

The fact that his personal coach also happens to be the coach of the state team has helped in his rapid progress. The 17-year-old’s parents hoped their son would bring glory for the country by winning in Olympics, which happens to be his ultimate dream.
