India Grand Prix Gold 2014 Day 4 – Saina, Sindhu, Srikanth reach semis

Here are the results from Day 4 of the India Grand Prix Gold event being played in Lucknow:

Men’s singles category:

HS Prannoy emerged as a winner in his match against Malaysian opponent Zulfadli Zulkiffli; Prannoy won 21-19 and 21-14.

Aditya Prakash managed to seal victory against Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin of Malaysia by the score of 21-19, 18-21, and 21-16.

Meanwhile, Xue Song ended Subhankar Dey’s winning streak by defeating him 21-18 and 21-15.

K Srikanth, however, was successful in advancing to the semis by defeating Sai Praneeth B. 21-18, 20-22 and 21-12.

Women’s singles category:

PV Sindhu continued her winning momentum by defeating Indonesian smasher Hera Desi 21-11, 21-13.

Arundhati Pantawane failed to progress to the semis as she lost against Lindaweni Fanetri from Indonesia by the score 10-21 and 7-21.

Saina Nehwal, the top seed in this category, defeated the fifth seeded Bellaetrix Manuputty of Indonesia by 21-15 and 21-15 in a 45-minute match. Saina will look to continue her winning march in the semifinals, which will be played on Saturday, 25th January 2014.

Men’s doubles category:

The pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar booked their seat in the semi-finals after crushing their Indonesian opponents Andrei Adistia and Hendra Aprida Gunawan by the score 21-16 and 21-12.

The duo of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy B. was defeated by the Chinese pair of Kaixiang Huang and Si Wei Zheng by 21-17 and 21-13 in a 29-minute match.

The Thai pair of Songphon Anugritayawon and Pakkawat Vilailak crushed the Indian pair of Tarun Kona and Jishnu Sanyal comfortably by 21-14 and 21-14 in a 27-minute game.

Women’s doubles category:

The star Indian pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were eliminated from the tournament against the Thai pair of Phataimas Muenwong and Kilasu Ostermeyer. The Thai pair registered victory by the score of 21-14 and 21-11.

The Indians challenge in the women’s doubles category was brought to an end after the defeat of Sanskriti Chhabra and Ekta Kalia against the Malaysian duo of Vivian Kah Mun Hoo and Khe Wei Woon by the score 11-21 and 6-21 in a 23-minute battle.

Mixed doubles category:

The Indians bowed out of the mixed doubles category of the tournament as the pair of Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan tasted defeat against the Chinese pair of Yilv Wang and Huang Yaqiong. The Chinese pair defeated the Indian pair by 21-14 and 21-12 in a 34-minute clash.
