India’s top ranked men’s singles player Parupalli Kashyap retained his last week’s ranking of 10th in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.

It may be worth recalling that the country’s highest men’s singles shuttler had fallen by the wayside in the first round of the Yonex Sunrise Indian Open to former world number one Taufiq Hidayat in an absorbing three-game affair.

Kashyap’s best recent performance this year was a quarterfinal finish in the prestigious All England Badminton Championships.

India’s badminton icon Saina Nehwal continues to cling on to her world number two ranking in the women’s singles category. PV Sindhu, who won the Yonex Malaysian Open – her maiden senior singles crown – retained her last week’s number 11 ranking.

Among the other Indian men, RMV Gurusaidutt stayed put at last week’s 25th spot to be the second highest ranked men’s singles player after Parupalli Kashyap.

Ajay Jayaram also remained at his last week’s 28th position. Same was the case with Sourabh Varma, who stayed put at 37th spot.

Anand Pawar was another Indian who held on to his last week’s ranking of 41.

It may be pertinent to mention that he had reached the semifinal of the Yonex Indian Open, where he lost to Japan’s Kenchi Tago.

However, K Srikanth surprisingly slipped fifteen places to be ranked 61st. He had earlier shocked Jan O Jorgensen in the first round of the Yonex Indian Open.

B Sai Praneeth advanced one spot to occupy the 55th place.

HS Prannoy, who reached the quarterfinals of the ongoing Thailand Open, moved up one notch to be placed 65th.

Arvind Bhat also climbed one spot to be placed 69th. Old warhorse Chetan Anand slipped five places to be 88th.

Anup Sridhar slumped twenty spots to be ranked 121st.

Among the other Indian women, Arundhati Pantawane, whose best performance this year was a semifinal finish at the recent Polish Open, stayed put at 75th slot.

PC Thulsai, another semifinalist at the Polish Open, also clung on to her last week’s ranking of 86th.

Tanvi Lad, who made it to the quarterfinals of the Polish Open, advanced one spot to be 89th. Sayali Gokhale stayed put at 99th position.

Saili Rane retained her last week’s ranking of 108. Sarada Jasti plunged twenty spots to be ranked 135th.
