RMV Gurusaidutt through to the third round with a thrilling win

RMV Gurusaidutt came through in three games

In a thrilling match, India’s RMV Gurusaidutt beat fellow countrymen Anand Pawar in three games 18-21 21-11 22-20 to progress through to the third round of the 2015 US Open Grand Prix Gold on Wednesday.

Game 1 saw Gurusaidutt take an early 2-0 lead, but Pawar made a quick comeback to win 4 out of he next 5 points to make it 4-3 in his favour. But his younger opponent refused to hold back and came back to win three straight points to make it 7-4 in his favour.

The next set of points saw both players exchange the lead until they once again reached a deadlock at the 15-15 mark, and that's where Pawar took the game away from Gurusaidutt to win it 21-18.

Gurusaidutt was refusing to buckle down, though, as was evident from his dominating performance in Game 2, where he took charge of proceedings and provided Pawar absolutely no openings, to take the game 21-11, accounting for 7 streaks of consecutive points in the process and taking the game into the decider.

In the deciding game, Gurusaidutt carried the momentum from the previous game and took a 3=0 lead early on, only for Pawar to make a return to make it 5-7, by winning 5 out of the next 9 points. As was the case with the opening game, both players began to exchange leads after that, until they reached a deadlock, once again at 10-10.

At that mark, it was Gurusaiduut, this time, who broke the shackles first, winning the next 3 straight points to make it 12-10.Refusing to back down, Pawar won the next 2 points to make it 12-12 once again.

The turning point in the contest though, came at this point, as Gurusaidutt won the next 5 points straight to take a decisive 17-12 lead and despite Pawar winning 8 out of the next 13 points, it didn't prove good enough as Gurusaidutt eventually took the game 22-20 in his favour to enter into the third round.
