Srikanth Kidambi won his second match at the Dubai Super Series Finals after beating World No. 5, Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto, in 38 minutes.

Srikanth came into this match fresh off his 15-21, 21-16, 21-10 win over Kento Momota. The Indian, who recently achieved a World ranking of 8 in the BWF rankings, had a comparatively easier outing against Sugiarto as he took the match 21-18, 21-13.

The highest ranked Indian male badminton player had a brilliant start as he raced to a 4-0 lead in the first game. The Indonesian, however, bounced back and took the lead at 7-5, but it was Srikanth who led 11-10 at the break. Sugiarto threatened to take the first game when he led the Indian 18-17, but Srikanth bounced back and took the next four points to win the first game 21-18.

The second game started as a tight affair with both the players exchanging points and were tied at 5-5. At that point, the World No. 8, took the initiative by opening a massive lead and was leading 15-7 at one point. The Indian did not let the 5th-ranked player comeback and sealed the match by taking the second set 21-13.

Having won his opening two matches of Group B, Srikanth’s passage to the next round is a mere formality as he faces Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in the final group match.
