PV Sindhu became the first ever Indian to reach the final of the Olympics

Indian shuttler Pusarla Venkata Sindhu stormed into the final match of the women’s singles badminton competition at the Rio Olympic Games after defeating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-10 in Rio De Janeiro. The 21-year old has secured India’s second medal at Rio 2016 after her stunning victory over her Japanese counterpart and will be facing Spain’s Carolina Marin in the final match tomorrow at 7:30 PM IST.

She’s going to win gold: PV Sindhu’s parents

PV Sindhu’s parents have expressed their delight after their daughter went ahead and won her semi-final match at the Olympic Games. The parents of the shuttler were watching the live coverage of the match on their television screens at home and broke down as their daughter scored the last point to defeat the Japanese.

Sindhu’s father, PV Ramna, was happy after the win and indicated that the goal of his daughter is to win the gold. He said, “Everybody is proud of Sindhu, she has made the nation proud.” Ramna also acknowledged the efforts of coach Pullela Gopichand, saying, “Both she and Gopichand are working very hard, if she plays like this then she will surely win tomorrow.”

He also added, “When she was leading 15-10 in the second game then we thought that she will win now.” On the other hand, Sindhu’s mother also told media that her family had been visiting the temple every day for Sindhu’s dreams to come true. She said, “We have been going to the temple every day and even tomorrow we will. She will win by god’s grace. We will be celebrating now, we are extremely happy and proud.”

I will give my best: PV Sindhu

PV Sindhu spoke to NDTV following her win over Okuhara and said that she will give her best when she faces Carolina Marin tomorrow. The Olympic finalist said, “I didn’t take it easy at any point. I feel she played a good game, there were many rallies. The final will be my biggest match. Marin is a tough opponent and I will give my best.”

Sindhu also responded to Abhinav Bindra’s tweet after her victory and said that she will give her all to make Bindra’s wish come true. We would like to inform our readers that the shooter had tweeted:

Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand also spoke to the press after her impressive victory. He said, “Sindhu played extremely well in the match but we will have to plan well against Marin in the final to beat her.”
