2013 FIBA Americas Championship (Day 4): Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Argentina win

Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Argentina won their respective matches on the Day 4 of the 2013 for Men held at Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela.

Dominican Republic 61-85 Mexico

Mexico maintained their winning streak at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship, as they beat Dominican Republic 85-61.

With the win, Mexico are top of Group B with three wins out of three. Mexico took the first and second quarter 29-20 and 16-11 respectively.

Dominican Republic took the third quarter 17-15 but Mexico were unstoppable in the fourth quarter as they took the last quarter 25-13 to ease past their opponents.

Mexico’s Orlando Mendez top scored with 26 points and 5 assists. Jack Martinez with 16 points and 7 rebounds was the highest scorer for Dominican Republic.

Jamaica 82-88 Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico defeated Jamaica, 88-82, to win their fourth consecutive match. They are atop Group A of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship.

Puerto Rico took the first and second quarter 25-13 and 23-20 respectively while Jamaica took the third quarter 29-15. But Puerto Rico outscored their opponents in the fourth 25-20 to wrap up proceedings.

Jose Juan Barea was the top scorer for Puerto Rico with 24 points, while Samardo Samuels scored 24 points for Jamaica.

Uruguay 79-73 Brazil

Uruguay defeated Brazil 79-73 in the fourth day of the championship to keep their hopes of advancing to the next phase alive.

Uruguay controlled the first three quarters of the game and took them 17-15, 19-18 and 20-17 respectively. Brazil tried to surprise their opponents in the fourth, but Uruguay held on to draw the last quarter 23-23 and win the match, 79-73.

Esteban Batista stood out with 22 points and 13 rebounds for Uruguay while Guilherme Giovannoni had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Brazil.

Argentina 77-71 Venezuela

After their shocking loss to the Dominican Republic, Argentina showed their true colours against hosts Venezuela in this Group B encounter.

Argentina took the first quarter 22-21, while Venezuela took second and third quarter 23-15 and 16-14 respectively. But Argentina came out of the blocks quickly in the fourth and outscored their opponents 2 6-11 to win the match.

For Argentina, Facundo Campazzo top scored with 18 points and 7 assists, while Juan Gutierrez had 17 points and 4 rebounds. For Venezuela, Rafael Perez had 14 points and Donta Smith scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

10 teams affiliated to the FIBA Americas sub zone fighting for the continental honours at the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship, which are being held in Venezuela. The top four teams qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
