24th FIBA Asia Champions Cup: ASU (Jordan) win bronze

Hosts ASU (Jordan) won bronze by defeating Bahrain’s Al Hala 107 – 76 in the third place match of the ongoing 24th FIBA Asia Champions Cup at Amman, Jordan.

ASU (Jordan) were all out strong and attacking since the start of the match. They took the first quarter 34 – 17 and also took the second quarter 30 – 18 to go to the halftime break with 29-points lead.

After the break, Al Hala (Bahrain) tried to come back in the match by taking the third quarter 28 – 18 but ASU (Jordan) took the last quarter 25 – 13 to thrash Al Hala (Bahrain) to win their first ever medal in this competition.

Ahmad Alhamarsha netted game-high 29 points to help hosts secure their bronze while Rasheim Wright top scored with 26 points for Al Hala (Bahrain).

Al Rayyan (Qatar) will face Foolad Mahan (Iran) in the gold medal match of the championship.

The FIBA Asia Champions Cup, previously known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Champions Cup until 2002, is Asia’s premier club level basketball competition, involving the champion clubs of Asian countries.

It is organised by FIBA Asia and takes place once a year. A total of 10 professional basketball clubs qualify every year from the sub-zones of FIBA Asia. After Khas Bronchos (MGL) and San Miguel Beermen (PHI) pulled out of this year’s championship, only 8 clubs are participating in the 24th edition of Asia’a premier club level basketball competition.
