Indian eves register a memorable win against Kazakhstan

BFI Press Release/New Delhi, 31st Oct 2013: In a pulsating match that went into overtime, team India beat Kazakhstan 65-62 for their first ever level I victory in the history of the FIBA Asia Championship for Women.The encounter against Kazakhstan was the 5th and final of the preliminary round for team India. India looked strong from the opening tip, taking an 11 point lead at half time. However, Kazakhstan fought back in the third quarter tying the game at 45 points. The fourth quarter saw India take a 2 point lead on Anitha Pauldurai’s jumper with 8 seconds on the clock but India fouled Kazakhstan who proceeded to make both their free throws to tie the game at 55 points at end of regulation. Anitha Pauldurai’s 18 points and an equally good performance by Jeena Skaria, with 14 points saw India through to a win. Oxana Ivanova (16 pts), Anastassiya Alishakaite (14 pts) and Anna Vinokurova (14 pts) helped Kazakhstan make the game a cliffhanger affair. India takes on Indonesia in the relegation match on 2nd Nov 2013. India is currently placed 5th in Level 1 with 6 points.
