Video: Satnam Singh scores his first pro bucket for Texas Legends

Satnam Singh Bhamara

Satnam Singh Bhamra created history in June 2015 when he became the first ever Indian-born basketball player to be drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was picked by 2011 League champions Dallas Mavericks in the draft.

While it would be difficult for the Mavericks to feature the 19-year-old in the main team straight away, there is no doubt that he is an extraordinary combination of size and talent at his age.

"I don't see him playing in the NBA this year," Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said of Singh. "We'll give him time to develop." On October 31, Singh was acquired by Mavericks’ affiliates Texas Legends to play in the NBA Development League. A league where the youngster can find the guidance and the grooming to turn into the likes of Lakers great, Kobe Bryant and India’s Jagdeep Singh, the players he idolized as a kid.

The Punjab-born has visited India couple of times after getting selected by the Mavericks. Recently when he returned back to the United States to represent the Legends in the NBA D-League, the 7ft 2in player scored his first ever basket for the team in the second quarter of the match against the Austin Spurs.

Here is a video of the young prodigy from India scoring his first basket.
