Junior Indian boxers bagged 3 medals at Asian Youth Championship

Junior Indian boxers Gaurav Solanki, Neel Kamal Singh and Manjeet all clinched medals at the Asian Youth Championships in their individual events.

Solanki won the gold medal in the 52kg category while Neel Kamal (75kg) and Manjeet (69kg) came away with a silver and bronze respectively.

Th International Boxing Association (AIBA) had suspended Indian Boxing Federation since 2012, due to anomalies in its election procedures. As a result, the boxers were competing as representatives of the Asian Boxing Federation at the event.

Ecstatic with the team’s performance, chief coach G. Manoharan said: “The team consists of new boys and the competition was tough with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan sending their top boxers. We boxed well and I am happy with our overall performance.

“Gaurav beat top boxers from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to win the gold. Neel Kamal was a little unlucky as his opponent made good use of his height in the final.”

Despite the fact that these three boxers were not technically representing India at the Championships, they have undoubtedly done their country proud with their performance.
