The Millionaire Chess Tournament of 2015 was the most awaited event for amateur chess players. It gives them an opportunity to win upto a million dollars in prize money. In its second year, this one of a kind tournament was held in Las Vegas, Nevada in October 2015. The event was an initiative started by Maurice Ashley a prominent chess player and promoter and entrepreneur.

With a good commentary team, comprising Tania Sachdev and Lawrence Trent, and numerous kibitzing games for the spectators, the tournament was a grand success. It was won convincingly by GM Hikaru Nakamura, who was the favourite and top seed.

There were others like Fabio Caruana who did not make it to the finals. Le Quam Liem finished runner up. In this event. the qualifiers were followed by ‘Millionaire Monday,” the route to winning the grand prize. Only the top four qualified for this event.

In addition to that main open event, there were also under-ELO rating categories for all players to get a fair chance to win.

The tournament offered a full Planet Hollywood Vegas experience with a free limousine pick up for the first 20 grandmasters, a massage room, a VIP suite to enjoy, red carpet photo option and much more.
