Gukesh D, playing with white pieces, entered into a tough contest against Nijat Abasov and secured an interesting victory over the Azerbaijani chess grandmaster.
Interestingly, it's a three-way tie for the first spot in the standings between Ian Nepomniachtchi, Hikaru Nakamura, and Gukesh D. With only two more rounds left, it’s going to be interesting to see who stands on top in the Candidates 2024
On the other hand, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Praggnanandhaa R had settled for a draw. The Indian grandmaster is currently ranked at the third position and he has to really try hard to ascend his spot with only two rounds left.

It’s important to note that there are only two more rounds left in the ongoing FIDE Candidates. The champion of the open category will take on Ding Liren in the World Chess Championship in 2025.
Meanwhile, the winner of the women’s category will lock horns with China’s Ju Wenjun in the Women’s World Chess Championship.
