Shakib-al-Hasan allegedly involved in a fight with spectators in Mirpur; BCB to investigate

Shakib Al Hasan appeals during the 1st ODI between Bangladesh and India in Mirpur, Dhaka

The former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan finds himself involved in yet another controversy after the all-rounder was allegedly involved in an altercation with a spectator during the first ODI against India in Mirpur on Sunday.

Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the acting CEO of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) told that the board will hold the responsibility to deal with the allegations and come to a conclusion after a fair debate.

"We have heard of an incident which we will look into after the series. Like you, we have heard of what happened but we haven't seen. So we have to look at all sides before we can tell you anything more," Chowdhury said.

Bangladesh lost the match by a 7-wicket margin after a lengthy rain interruption which reduced the 2nd innings to 26 overs. In the post-match press conference, Mushfiqur Rahim said that he irrespective of who was at fault, the team as a whole will have to accept the consequences.

"It was not in my control, and I hadn't heard it when the incident happened," Mushfiqur said. "I was busy calculating what would have happened in case of a match taking place. It would be better to talk to the management. If I had known, I could have told you.

“I didn't see what happened. A lot can be said. Whatever the public says, we have to bow our heads to them. So I would say it is not just his fault, but the whole team's fault. It can be anyone, so the team has to be the sufferer.”

A local newspaper has reported that a group of spectators teasing Shakib’s wife in the VIP box was the reason behind the altercation. Earlier this year, Shakib was banned for 3 ODIs by BCB for making ‘inappropriate gesture’ on live television during the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka in Mirpur.
