Three players who were kicked out of a cricket tournament in Flushing Meadows Corona Park last weekend created a huge ruckus afterwards as they attacked the remaining players with cricket bats, cricket stumps and hammers, according to a DNAinfo source.

Ansanur Rahman, Suhal Uddin and Faheed Matin had a heated argument with other players at the ground last Saturday afternoon as a result of their team getting eliminated from the tournament they were participating in.

Players stabbed with objects

The players hit a 28-year old man on the back of his head with a cricket bat until he fell to the ground and even then continued assaulting him with the stumps, according to the Queens District Attorney's office.

As per complaints, the assaulters also stabbed him in the chest, back and cheek with an unidentified object. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital afterwards and received stitches.

Another person was beaten up with a hammer, making him lose consciousness momentarily, and was taken to the hospital as well. Both victims have been released from the hospital since, according to sources in the police.

The unfortunate incident first came to light courtesy of a blog titled “A Walk in the Park”.

The three men guilty were charged with gang assault and possession of criminal weapons but were released on bail later. Rahman and Matin were released on a cash bail of $5,000, and Uddin had to give a cash bail of $10,000 to be released. They are supposed to be back in Queens criminal court on November 10.

One of the accused has a criminal background

Uddin’s lawyer has defended his client by saying that he was not an ousted player and just a mere spectator, before adding that he dialled 911 emergency when he saw certain people being beaten up.

"They are alleging he had a cricket bat, which he couldn't have had. It was not recovered on him," said lawyer Alex Grosshtern.

"He stayed for the cops to arrive, and to his dismay he's cuffed up."

A release from Queens DA’s office in 2003 stated that Uddin has a criminal background, having been charged for an attack on Bangladesh’s Independence Day way back in 2001, but his lawyer said that Uddin is now a cab driver who tried to offer a helping hand during the attack on Saturday.
