Google CEO Sundar Pichai had once dreamt of being a cricketer

Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed that he had once dreamt of becoming a cricketer, and that he admired the Indian legend, Sunil Gavaskar. The Chennai-born technocrat was in New Delhi addressing students during the ‘Google for India’ event at the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC).

"When I was young I dreamt of being a cricketer... And I was a huge fan of Gavaskar," he said.

Pichai has already met the Railways Minister, Mr. Suresh Prabhu, the Union Minister for Information and Technology, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, and the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.

In a candid atmosphere at the SRCC, Pichai revealed his own cricket story, analogous to every Indian, who quintessentially has a cricket story to tell. He said that he had witnessed the tied Chennai Test of 1986 between India and Australia.

Pichai added that he had the last-day ticket for the match, and was told that the match would end in a draw. He, nevertheless, went to watch the game, and was testimony to one of the greatest finishes to a Test match in the history of the game.

He also spoke about his love for Football and said that he admired reigning European champions Barcelona and the club’s Argentine forward Lionel Messi.

"I am a big football fan. I follow football more because it is easier to follow there. I am a big Barcelona and Lionel Messi fan," Pichai told students at the SRCC.
