Ian Chappell praises Indian batting talent, says it's best in the world

South Africa v India - 1st Test Day 4

Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara

Former Australian captain Ian Chappell has praised the remarkable batting strength of Team India. He said, “India is producing by far the best young batsmen currently, and in addition to (Shikhar) Dhawan, (Virat) Kohli, (Cheteshwar) Pujara and Rohit Sharma, Unmukt Chand is one for the future.”

“I really like the look of Shikhar Dhawan. He’s a talented, aggressive opener and if successful they’re extremely valuable to a team, Teams are always playing their ODI matches with an eye on the next World Cup. Given they will be playing at home, Australia is looking like a strong contender at the moment,” the 70-year-old said.

He also added that he has doubts over the DRS, saying, “I’m like a lot of the players – I don’t trust many aspects of either system. I’d change many aspects of the system but my first change would be to take it out of the players’ hands. I’m not a big fan of the system at all.”

He said that attacking cricket is the way forward, “As a fan of counter-attacking cricket, I enjoyed the efforts of Dhoni in scoring his double-century by attacking the Australian bowling (in February in Chennai), and Haddin in every Ashes Test, where he scored half-centuries in the first innings of all Tests when his team was in deep trouble.”

He also mentioned that being the co host of the next world cup along with New Zealand, Australian team is one of the strong contender for the next world cup. It is also pertinent to add that this 70-year-old veteran is the member of the Jury which will finalize the seventh ESPN cricinfo awards.

It appears very encouraging that this seasoned cricketer has appreciated the strength of Indian squad just before the beginning of the series with New Zealand, which will definitely boost the morale of Team India.
